What format do songs need to be in to play on a non-MP3 CD player?

I am trying to burn A CD of my favorite songs from all my CDs. However, my car CD player only plays whatever format normal songs are in. What format is that? I don't want to burn a full CD, I just want to copy my selected songs onto a CD-R, put them into any CD player and have them play.

Thanks, Warthog

select burn an audio cd. there is some other stuff than just the format of the songs that needs to be written on the cd for the cd player to recognize it.
the format is .cda or CD audio.

Sure they do. :p

If you burn .WAV files on a data CD, you'll get audio alright..

Whether you consider it music or not, I dunno.... :p

Redbook for maximum portability, but that's not going to happen with a consumer burner so orangebook.
