what form factor case is this?

i don't have a digital cam, but i can tell you all about the case and hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction as to how i can get a modern computer inside this old case. the chip is a 486 dx-33 and i can't seem to find the motherboard vendor on the board itself. there are two controllers? on the board with OPTi on top. in the bottom left corner it has 486DX rev. c on it. the bios information is from 1985-1990. the computer case has a Turbo button and a 5.25" floppy drive. that's all the distinguishing marks i can read.

can anyone tell me what this case is and if they've fit new components in this old of a case?
 
Well, it would help to know if it's a desktop case or a tower case (horizontal or vertical). Anyway, that's a 486, which is like, way old, so AFAIK it will probably be a proprietary case standard (ATX format is what's needed for modern motherboards). Besides that, the power supply in your old case will probably only be 150 watts or so, which is not enough for the fast systems of today.
 
it's a tower and the ps is an Enhance 250w. i'm thinking it's just an old AT ff case.

it's not a brand name computer as there's no case badge on it. lessee...

sitting in the case it had all the ISA slots on the top right the ps connector is on the bottom right. the processor sat in the middle of the board all the way to the left. I'll see if i can't make some modifications to fit an ATX mboard and components in there.

You'll have to find some way to fit an ATX powersupply in there, too, and the power switch on the front of the case will have to be changed (ATX uses a totally different kind of switch - the switch hooks up with a thin connector to the motherboard, while AT switches directly control the power coming in to the power supply). IMHO it's just too much, but I suppose if you have the time and determination to do so, and you can't get a regular ATX case, well then, go ahead.
 
Too much work and trouble, heck I have some AT cases around here that I need to give away but I'm guessing no one would want them anyways.
 
Sounds like an old AT case. If you want to purchase an ATX case there are some good deals around.

Go to cases, ATX mid tower, approx. 47th case in list.

The Antec SX830 for $59 is on the ATX full tower page.

Its a real hassle to convert an AT case to accept an ATX ps and motherboard and cool it properly.
