What first world problem did you have today?

I had to drive in the rain on the freeway this morning. All the damn 18 wheelers were kicking up mist and making it hard to see anything. Jerkfaces.

I had two little battery-related chores to look into, which I did this morning:

1) One of the motion sensor lights hasn't been working properly since I recharged the AAA batteries (either the sensor not activating the light or the light was super dim).

2) The TV remote control hasn't been reacting to button presses lately (I recently found the batteries in it had leaked so I cleaned it out in a very basic manner, replaced the batteries and it was good to go), I thought there was a chance that the (non-rechargeable) AAA batteries I used had been used before and had run out of juice.

I went after the TV remote problem first, I took two spare batteries from the same packet as the potentially suspect ones were in (no choice, they're the only non-rechargeables left in the house). Switched batteries and found that the problem was intermittent. A little more playing later and I found that the remote control has decided to only react consistently if I press each button for about a second, same performance on the original batteries. I cleaned the bit on the front of the control for transmitting the signals, no difference. Whatever.

I took all four batteries back upstairs to go after the motion sensor problem, and even though I had only tested it about 30 minutes before, I thought I'd try it one more time. It worked perfectly. I tested a few more times, still perfect.

This seems to be in a series of incidents occurring with electronics in the last year whereby a device acts temporarily in a highly suspect manner, then pretends that everything is fine. To replace it then and there seems like overkill, so I guess they're going to test my patience for a bit longer.

SOMEHOW, my wife managed to lose her S21Ultra phone today.

Ever since we signed up with Linked In, we haven’t had access to our phone Verizon accounts. Until now, it was just a minor inconvenience. (I’ve complained to Linked in several times…they assured me they’d get it fixed)
But…now, we don’t have access to the account, so we can’t lock the phone or use Verizon to find the phone…and we can’t replace the phone via the insurance without account access.

Went thru absolute hell yesterday, I was eating popcorn and got a husk stuck in the back of my throat. I tried for what seemed like hours to get it out using my tongue and drinking liquid, but nothing worked. For awhile I wasn't sure I was gonna make it. I coughed every 15 seconds for 3 hours and somehow it just went away on it's own. I Googled techniques and nothing worked. These things have magical sticking powers.

If they made a specialty husk stuck in the throat removal tool, even if it cost $200 I would buy it.

I broke blood vessels, capillary most likely, under my eye from forceful coughing. It's happenen twice to me. Looks just like a black eye. Took several days for my body to absorb the blood.

This was popcorn from AMC, not sure what kind they use. At home I make Mushroom popcorn, it's either husk free or next to none. I don't think I've ever got a husk from it.

I feel your pain. We have soft sided, hard sided, carry ons, rolling, expandable, etc.
Usually just bring a backpack so we dont have to check anything.

Thrift stores are your friend for cheap luggage. You can buy a large suitcase for $5, take your trip, then donate it right back to the thrift store, saving the storage space.

My sister needed my help to boost mother in law's car. I go there with my booster but it doesn't work, I think the AC cord connection finally gave up, been meaning to fix it as it's frayed inside and just never get around to it, it's kind of something set and forget and it still worked fine up until now. .

So I tell her we should just go to Canadian Tire to buy one since that way she'll have one and not need to keep borrowing mine. We do that, get back, only to realize it's a battery operated one which was not really clearly indicated on the box and it looks like a traditional one. So now we have to wait for it to charge so that we can then go boost the car. Was hoping it would work while plugged in even if the internal battery is not charged but doesn't appear that way, so told her to just bring it home and let it charge overnight.

That was a lot of back and forth that took up most of my day.

Not sure when this happened, cause the phone is always on serving internet, and I only look at it to update programs, but I /think/ it was normal before the android 16 update. I can't find anything digging through the settings, though it's possible I've overlooked something.

WTF is that exactly?! The power(right there in the fucking name guys) button just vibrates when I press it. In what universe does this make a gram of sense?! It isn't a huge deal for this particular phone cause it mainly sits on the counter, but I consider it urgently important to be able to quickly lock the phone, especially in the United Fascist States of America. It can probably be done with some addon program and a widget, but that's about as stupid as it gets when there's a button *right there* that always used to have the function of locking/restarting the phone. Fucking morons :^S

I would try to see if you can get to the battery (they don't make it easy anymore) then disconnect the battery and then use a 3.3v power supply to power it directly. If you need to power it off you unplug it.

Oh, I can get it off. In the notification area(whatever they call that shelf), you can fully expand that, and there's a power menu in there with the expected options. But it's a tiny button to hit, and it's in a menu, instead of being on a physical button like god intended. They kept the name, but removed the power except for turning it on. That's something you should be able to hit fast to lock down the phone. Either potential theft, or cops. You can be compelled to unlock via biometrics, but they can pound sand making you enter a passcode. Lockdown or fresh reboot requires the passcode.

Did you try hold the power button down for at least 5 seconds. That seems to be SOP for a lot of portable electronics.

Yea, that works, but it takes a few seconds, and is overkill if you just want it truly locked, and not a full restart. I just don't get why the button doesn't do anything. I /think/ they're(the various companies) trying to turn the power button into a dedicated ai button, but they can fuck right off with that shit. I disable all ai stuff as I find it, and I certainly don't want ⅓ of the physical buttons I have to be rendered useless.

i'm not sure why a lot of portable devices are made that way. I've always assumed that it was to avoid accidental switches - whether power-on or power-off. But I don't know that for a fact.
