A while back I ordered a bunch of ductwork parts to run the ductwork from my wood stove to my living room, and today I went to finish the last section and realized that the floor register boot I got is 3x10 and not the standard 4x10. FFS. Home Depot doesn't have angled 4x10, only straight, which could maybe work but will be less ideal. So I drove to HD, only to find out they close at 8 now instead of 9 like it says on their site. FFS again. I went to Canadian Tire and they were open but don't have much selection in ductwork stuff but I did find a grille that will fit the other size. Problem is now I will have one register that's different than all the others. It will be tucked behind an end table so not really a huge deal... but it still kind of bothers me.

With all that screwing around I'm not even in the mood for this anymore. I'm still pissed that I ended up getting the wrong size. Trying to decide if I do it with the weird size one, or try to figure out something else tomorrow, like maybe see if I can get one from an hvac company or something.

I have an injury on my right ankle bone, and I don't know how it got there. It's in the same spot I used to get hurt when I double wrapped the shank on my spurs, but I haven't had that since I quit double wrapping them. I was in spurs Sunday, but I didn't notice the ankle til Tuesday. That makes me think it wasn't the spurs, but I can't remember what could've caused it. Maybe I slipped on some wood on the ground or something...

This shit always happens. I hurt myself, don't really notice at the time cause something always hurts, and then can't remember what happened when I'm in a more quiet place to reflect on it :^S

My feet have been bad on and off for several years now. Started with morton neuroma, managed to fix that with cortizone, then achillies tendon, and now it's the ankle bone too. I think it's my injury from last year coming back. I spranged it pretty good in the bush, didn't have good enough boots for the uneven terrain.

The morton neuroma was the worst though. The other stuff gets better if I walk more on it, it only hurts initially when I get up and put weight on it.

Managed to find the proper size ductwork today for what I was working on so returned the smaller size grille, and was even able to return the odd size duct section without a reciept. HD is usually pretty good for that. Home Hardware had the right size.

Getting over a bad cold, been very groggy, sleeping nonstop.
Knock on wood, I haven't been sick at all, not once, since before the pandemic. If there's one thing I learned then it was how to avoid exposing myself to pathogens. Today I went for my daily 2 hour hike up 1000 feet of elevation and back home. I was wearing this mask: 3M N95 3211+ vented. I wasn't wearing it to protect against pathogens since it was outdoors, but because it keeps cold air out of my nose, so I'm much more comfortable. But I wear the vent-less version in stores, etc. Yes, even now.

I saw info about AI generated report indicating that around 1/4 of the population is now deemed to have long covid! That is no goddamn joke.

Decided to make Belgian Waffles, broke out my Breville waffle maker, and mixed up the rest of the box to make a double batch. As I was stirring it, I saw some black specks, then saw one moving. The shit was infested with pantry bugs. There goes my breakfast.

ARRGH.

I hate wasting food, but I'm not trying to eat bug infused waffles.
Ah, yes, that IS a First World problem for sure. Now, if you were 3rd World you would have gone "Oh, boy! Look at those bugs! Yummy!" :p

The kid across the street installed a custom muffler today. It has a deep throaty growl. We're going to have burn his f'in' house down. It's the only way.

That sucks, one of my sisters refuses to get vaccinated, and she's had COVID like 5 different times. The fact she still won't get vaccinated tells me she really doesn't believe they work lol.

Here's a 1st world problem to add to my long list. I'm looking for a specific set of wheels for my car. I've been on like 30 wheel & tire sites. Maybe a dozen didn't have a search button and not even a filter for brands. The best you can do is search based off size, width and offset. And a bunch of them have hundreds, so it takes forever to look thru. Not letting someone search by name, or at least select a brand from a list. And instead forcing them look at 240 different wheels isn't a great way to do business.

I followed the vaccine development scene for covid-19 all the way and knew it would work, couldn't get it fast enough. Was like 1st in line and have gotten all 8 shots available to me ASAP EXCEPT this last one (#9), because I figure I'm not at much risk right now (being masked almost always in those type situations) and don't expect to be possibly exposed until middle January 2025 when I expect to visit a big family function. Being vaccinated just a few weeks before attending this, I should have maximum immunity FWIW. So, I'll get that 9th shot around Xmas! ;)

Can you talk to his folks? That's aggravating and really not good for anybody, including the kid.

Got a 120V AC 120MM Pancake fan to move air from the space heater around the room so I wouldn't have to run the ceilng fan. Suckah is LOUD! Maybe too loud and might cause a re-think.

What is with everything requiring apps these days, just make a damn web interface, at least it's not tied to a big corporation like Google and Apple.

Bought some security cameras and there's no web interface, you need to use some stupid app. I run a custom rom on my phone so don't have access to the stores. They do offer a Windows app so I tried it in a VM, but it just exits when you go to add a camera. I am hoping to be able to enable RTSP and never have to use the app again.

Remembered that I have this old Samsung tablet that someone gave me. So I decided to give in and set that one up with Google, it's not like it's going to be my every day device, and it's going to be off 99% of the time anyway. Trying to create a new Google account and it seems everything is taken. I'm just putting random crap like nfinrgu478nfhng74jnfg and it's all not available! Did they literally run out of possible names for google accounts?

This seems like lot of trouble to get a camera working, think I'm just going to return these. So dumb that they can't just have a web interface, it's always been that way in the past. No need for cloud account or BS like that.

All of my cameras are IP based and run off my home network as well as the NVR. They display on a 24" monitor in a 3 x 3 grid. Mouse is used for pan, tilt and the ones that have zoom. I can pull them up on a PC .... on IE11. They won't work on any of my other browsers without some extra tweaking.

I could set the NVR up for remote viewing, but I have no need for that.

You can get (cr)apps from other places, including play if you use aurora(from fdroid). Apkmirror is reliable, but their selection is curated, and they may not have programs from small companies. Might not work if the (cr)app requires play services, and you don't have that or a facsimile installed on your phone.

Your point stands though. The (cr)appification of trivial web services is irritating as shit. This is a problem that was solved decades ago. It's called a "web browser". Web browsers don't allow as much spyware though, and it's every corporations right and obligation to monetize consumers the maximum extent technologically possible. It certainly isn't enough to sell hard/software. That leaves private data on the table just sitting there unexploited.

Also, fuck play store. Anyone can download from debian's repos for any reason. You don't need to hack around to get access. You just ask, and they give you the files. Play should only be for paid programs as a billing service.

A USB hub on one of my computers was causing some sort of interference with wireless mice right around it. Fun times.

Also, I installed a Dyalog APL interpreter on my media computer and it silently changed my keyboard to Dyalog English, so things like ctrl+A didn't select all, it added an alpha character. Weird problems this morning.

^^^ I still have some of the very old style X-10 controlled switches and outlets around the house. They still work, so I keep them instead of 'smart' stuff.

One day, one of them started doing some really weird stuff like turning on or off at random. I'd turn it off and a few minutes later it would come back on. Drove me nuts for a day or two.

Then I noticed an LED undercounter light strip acting up that eventually went dim, but not off. This is powered by a USB charger type thing that comes with many cell phones and other devices. To fix the light strip issue, I replaced the charger.

X-10 problem went away too.

I think I'm coming up with a flu. Started with mild coughing, the coughing got more rough, and now I feel like it might be turning into a fever. Hate to be sick so close to Christmas... hopefully this will be a short one.
