I found it, it was in the bathroom, brought it there when I went to take my shower, then when I was done, I left it there and was out the door.

My dad actually left his phone on top of his car once and drove a few blocks, and it was still there. Got lucky. He has an iphone too so not exactly cheap to replace.

The heat in the office rises to the upper office which then makes the AC kick on, the lack of humidity then makes the humidifier kick on. I basically got a threesome hvac gang bang going on over here, and it's loud.

Someone used one of my checking account debit cards to drop two $200 charges on FanDuel. I
So I had to change the card number on all the places it was used for autopay - like PayPal, Karna and some other ones. Fucking annoying, but I caught it fast so should be all good

Well the kitchen counter was the last safe refuge from the kitten's territory, until this week. I was also on a zoom call when I heard my stove click and a burner ignite, at which point I look in the kitchen and see the cat dangling from the stove grate. After raising 4 kittens throughout my life, I have never had that happen, so for the first time, today I am installing child-proof stove knob protectors. For a kitty.

Tried to use my earth auger for the first time today and the ground is too frozen so it wouldn't go through. I was originally hesitating on going forward with this project then today decided to attempt it, but yeah, too late now! I should probably be working on prepping my basement for the wood stove anyway. I think I can call it done for outdoor projects for this year.

I wish you had taken a photo of the dangling kitty.

Maybe you can ask for a re-enactment? :p

I've definitely been thinking of that - wish I had a photo. But I sprang into instant rescue mode. I'm not from the TikTok/Instagram generation where my first instinct is to pull the camera out lol

My kitty does not dream of world domination like most cats - all he dreams about is Mayhem, like that insurance mascot dude.

Also a few new kitty behaviours. Last night was his first time destroying a toilet paper roll after his 3 months here. So now I have to close the bathroom door, which is fine but will take a while to remember. I did it today for the first time and unknowingly locked myself out. He also has become fascinated with the bathtub, especially when it runs. I can see him peeking behind the shower curtain at me when I shower. Not a first world problem, that's cute. But now he goes into the bathtub when it's off, and the toilet bowl seat and I now have to clean off little paw prints all the time now :)

Wife flew back to Taiwan, demanded to get an external monitor and vpn just so she can feel secure working. Didn't do one iota of work, but she had time to shop on amazon.ca, from Taiwan... I guess the vpn got some use.

A computer problem I encountered recently that I resolved today, but ended up being pretty weird:

I visited a customer about a week ago whose (Ivy Bridge era) desktop PC sometimes wouldn't start. Switch it on, nothing appears on the screen, no beeps, but the computer stays running. During the visit, the computer didn't act up for me at all, so it was just a case of searching for evidence. One interesting point was a live kernel event that pointed to the graphics card (144 I believe). Otherwise, everything seemed OK. I updated the graphics card driver in case the failure occurred at the point where a high-resolution display is drawn (the customer was in the habit of switching off the monitor manually after shutting down the computer, so they have to manually switch it back on again while the computer boots). One other detail is that the i5 processor in the customer's series was the P type so minus integrated graphics.

Fast forward to today's appointment. I brought along a spare second-hand graphics card, but while the computer did its usual problematic symptom with the customer's graphics card, it gave a beep sequence for mine (6 beeps, HP desktop, standards for beep sequences be damned, along with the stupid HP proprietary screws). I decided to take the computer home as I had more cards there, but I was worried that maybe HP got the idea of having a graphics card whitelist in place (not that I've ever encountered one, but I knew that graphics card worked). When I got the computer home, I tried the customer's graphics card in a spare PC, and sure enough it gave the same problematic symptom as in their PC (yay, at least there's some more evidence of my theory about the graphics card).

Long story short: It turns out my spare graphics cards are unlikely to be UEFI compatible. I know one of them isn't (HD Radeon 6670), and as the other two 8400GS's are older, I guess they're not either, hence the beep sequence. Luckily, I had a spare Ivy Bridge processor, I put that in there (also had to clean out a HSF from a PC that belongs to a smoker... not pleasant), which worked. Except now the computer was complaining that the processor fan wasn't working despite spinning it up for a split second before posting the error. I ended up connecting the processor fan to the chassis fan header and vice versa which worked fine. I also had a brief panic that when I removed the first DVI onboard socket cover, it was DVI-D (the customer was relying on a DVI-I to VGA adapter for their monitor). Weirdly, the board has a second on-board DVI socket, which luckily was DVI-I.

I've been doing some historical research and went down a rabbit trail looking for info on a now demolished building. The building was constructed in 1910. It took until 1921 for someone to bother to give the address of the building in a newspaper article or ad because, "everyone knows where it is" even though the building changed names four times in five years.

I keep seeing stories about such-and-such "star" of some movie or show dying only to find out that they weren't a star, they were a bit player at best. Like, the guy who was the voice of the Sorting Hat in the Harry Potter movies died and all the headlines were "Another star of Harry Potter franchise passes away" (after Coltrane).

The wind moved my antenna just enough to make a local channel disappear. It's the one carrying World Cup.

On the plus side I can watch Fox Sports Buffalo.

Need to get one of those motorized rotators like the ham radio guys use.

Or I can go adjust the antenna to where it was before when I can get both CTV and Fox. I mounted it just on thw ouside of a second floor bedroom. Just need to get on top of the garage.
