All day no phone back from lawyer office... I will try calling again tomorrow. I already called back several times wondering if they forgot me so I don't want to seem annoying. But at this point I think they DID forget about me. They can't be THAT busy. The mine never got back to me either, but if I can at least get to talk with the lawyer they might be able to answer my questions or find out. I can at least start the buying process and put this stuff as a contingency. If the lack of mineral rights or timber rights does not cause me any issues then I'm pretty much buying it. At this point I hope it's not an issue as the sellers are probably anticipating I'll buy at this point. They know I'm just waiting on a few things.

I've been without power since 9 AM EST.

All the power company has said since that time "We're working on it. No estimation of time when it will be completed".

I've never lived in a place that loses power so often, but since Duke Energy doesn't trim tree branches away from their power lines, I've come to accept losing power 1-3 days at a time. After throwing away a lot of food a day after doing a Costco run, I finally bought my first generator about 5 years ago. It's extremely loud and heavy, but it sure as hell beats throwing away $$$$.

They probably don't return calls to squirrels since they tend to be a little... nuts. :p

Just wait till you buy it and the timber gets sold off...and some mining or oil company turns your land into an open pit mine...or pops oil wells everywhere.

That’s how oil derricks were invented; someone decided to mine an area that already had oil wells so they had to put the wells on towers as they mined the land out from under them. Good thing they could use the local lumber to build the derricks.

I’ve been without power for 28 hours now and counting. GA Power online estimator is showing late Sunday evening as estimated time of power restore. I’ve never experienced greater than 12 hours of power failure but we do easily lose power. This is starting to piss me off as I have 4 fridges packed with food. Probably $5-6k worth of food at least. I don’t own a generator because I always had access to multiple ones at work. But now when I really need one, I’m no longer working so I don’t have easy access. I’m going to call up my former business partner today and see if he has spare generator I can borrow.

I’m on the waitlist for Tesla solar roof and Powerwall batteries. Tesla energy can’t come to GA soon enough so I can be fully energy independent and I don’t have to deal with these bullshit power outages.

Yeah that's the kind of stuff I want to find out before I buy. If they undermine the property under the bed rock I don't really care if it's deep enough but don't want them starting a full blown operation right on my land. I already live close enough to mines including an open pit, my entire city is undermined and probably has more miles of tunnels than we have paved roads. Those that live close enough to the open pit hear blasting once in a while too.

I don't have to worry about oil in this area though, it's mostly gold they're after. From what I gather they also can't operate within a certain distance of a structure.

Based on existing owners that have been there for 8 years it does not sound like any of this will be an issue though but I'll still want to verify all that. They asked the mine if they wanted to buy the property and they were not interested.

Yeah, they suck in the SE. Duke Energy finally updated the estimated completion time about 24 hours after they said they were already working on this particular outage........the job is now estimated to be done by October 31 at 10 PM.

I've pretty well been up all night because the dogs were restless without having fans on like they normally do, and I was going out and running the generator for about 30 minutes every 3 hours. It's going to be a long few days here.

I really used to get pissed off at how slow Duke Energy fixed power problems, but it's wasted energy. They allow branches to hang over their power lines everywhere around Charlotte, so any time there is even some moderate wind, the power goes out. I love the weather in this region, but god damn they have a "slow and steady, and we'll eventually get to it" method of doing everything down here.

Mine is showing November 1 at 11 PM. I can’t wait that long. I spoke with my former office and they have several generators I can use. I’m leaving now to pick it up.

As crazy as Hydro One rates are, at least one thing I can say is they are reliable. I've rarely had an outage last longer than 4 hours. Even the great blackout in the early 2000's, it only really lasted like 6-8 hours? I don't remember for sure but it was not a big deal, what made it a bigger deal is the fact that it was so widespread and at the time nobody knew how long it could be. We were thinking days but by next morning we had power.

Damn, I tried two different gas generators and both are broken. One won't start and other will but is not supplying any power. And ice is sold out everywhere so that's not an option either.

Ponyo: Don't let spoil. Feed the masses.
Best of luck.
Too tired from running around everywhere this morning.

Wow that totally sucks ... we lost power here a few weeks ago and mine was out for 5 days. Fortunately it happened right BEFORE I went grocery shopping!

Not a FWP just strange. I ordered a bunch of office supplies from staples, including a box of cheap ballpoint pens that probably cost $4. Staples delivered everything but the pens in one box within 48 hours of placing the order. Several days later, today, someone from Fedex came and delivered the single box of ballpoint pens and asked me to sign for the delivery. Not sure how it made any sense to staples to send everything else in one single box and then send a Fedex signature delivery required shipment of cheapo ballpoint pens.

I guess they figured you wouldn't be able to sign for anything till you had some pens. Surprised they didn't send one pen in advance, mind.

Dealing with Microsoft being stupid.

Wasting 20 + GB of my 1 TB boot SSD.(I hate using up space on drives .I'm weird, I know.)

Windows 10 version 2004 update is the issue.

Windows is so freaking bloated now days. What's worse is with their new direction of no longer having new versions and just keeping windows 10 updated forever is that it will just keep growing to ridiculous size as the updates keep piling on. Not that it matters much since every time there is a new version it's like 3x bigger than the previous anyway lol. Would be nice if they made a "lite" version though, would be good for VMs and other systems that only need to really do one thing. It's crazy having to allocate so much space.

I finally found a store with ice this evening. I bought 8 bags to stick in the fridges. Then about 10 minutes ago, our power finally came back on. So I didn't end up needing the ice but I didn't know that. Super happy to have power again after about 40 hours without.
