What first world problem did you have today?

They still use lot of power regardless. GPU is a 1070 TI, and I know most GPUs now are quite power hungry. Even my main linux machine I had to put a high end GPU in it since I needed a rather specific make/model/line of GPU AND I needed 2 HDMI ports, so it made my pickings quite slim and I ended up with a high end gaming one in there too. I should actually check to see what is involved in downclocking, as I don't actually need all that power for that machine, I just needed something that works well with Linux and has 2 HDMI ports.

I need to actually measure the power though, but I just assume those two machines probably use a decent amount of power compared to the servers. The servers all have onboard graphics so they tend to use like 75w or so. 75w seems to be the minimum for a DIY machine. SFF OEM stuff can go way lower like 15 watts.

There's this app that is a huge pain in the ass to log in to, and all my sessions keep dropping. It's like the 4th time tonight. I give up. I'll wait near end of shift and log back in and ticket any outstanding alarms then.

Decided to say F it and stop logging in to this app for now so I can continue on my python training which is something I've been asked to do through work. I had about 4 hours worth of courses left. Well they freaking changed the entire program and changed all the courses. Most of the courses I did are not in there anymore and there's a bunch of new ones. Basically everything I did no longer counts now and I have to redo all the new courses. Ugh. Was looking forward to finishing this too. Can only do so many python courses before it starts to get repetitious, and I can only retain so much info. I learn better by doing. Supposedly the next step was to do some coding challenges and I was kind of looking forward to that part so I can actually code.

Lol some of my servers use under 100w. A GPU alone uses over 100w, due to having only onboard video. Last I checked my i7 machine idles at around 300w, though that's when I had a different GPU, have not tested with the 1070 yet. Maybe that one is more efficient than the last one (I forget model, 560 Ti I think?).

The GTX 1070 doesn't use much when idling.

When I had an Intel 6700K CPU along with a GTX 1070ti in it, my idle desktop power draw was 79w for everything. Even with my 2700X build with the same GPU, it's barely over 100w.

Just idling, so probably only a few hundred watts, but still! Been trying to cut my unnecessary usage.

Is Windows set to automatically 'sleep' after a couple of hours?

I hate that it defaults to doing that when I've left it doing something that takes hours (like running backup) but am glad of it if I've left it on accidentally.

Honestly I always turn that stuff off, even though it would kinda be an advantage in a case like this. I just find it's always been problematic, often it will lock up and not come back. Both in Windows and in Linux my experience has always been poor with that sort of thing. There's even a hardware level one called C states that is fairly new, I had to disable that on my Linux machine as the whole system would lock right up overnight.
