Looks like that thing has made about 10 trips between those 2 locations :D

Times don't really sync up so yeah, probably(maybe?) not accurate but still... @ 88 miles per trip.

The screen cuts off at the bottom, it shipped on the 6th. For the distance travelled they could have dropped it off at my house north of Toronto, ON.

Mother, I hope this letter finds you well. We are still going back and forth on this stretch of road. We have been doing this for a week now. I do not know what is going on. I doubt the higherups know either.

It's Prime Day, but I didn't see anything on Prime that I wanted. It was also new iPhone day, but I didn't see a new iPhone in my price range that I wanted.

So, I decided to make up my own stupid marketing holiday... Steak Day! I'm going to get myself a big juicy steak for dinner to celebrate it :)

Trying to actually call a company and talk with an actual human these days is like pulling teeth. Usually not worth that sort of frustration.
Tell me about it.

I've been urgently trying to get a replacement Social Security card since Friday evening after the offices were closed. The website just gets me an error and the Columbus Day prevented me from doing anything over the phone on Monday. I called the moment they opened this morning only to get disconnected right after explaining everything to the agent. I called back and got immediately disconnected as soon as it connected me to a person. I called back again and got a dead line as soon as it connected me to a person. I called back again and I seemed to be muted because I couldn't make menu selections by voice or touch tones. I called again and got some scratch hold music right after the ring that previously connected me with someone, which ended with some more ringing and another dead line. I called again and it rang forever when it was supposed to be connecting me to someone.

The failures continued with successive calls. I had to call at least 8 different times and had 8 different problems before I finally reached someone... who STILL told me she was having trouble hearing me. My signal was great and I had long since turned off WiFi and stepped outside in case there were issues with WiFi calling and signal strength.

Whatever was causing the issue requesting a replacement online was causing issues over the phone (I think it was a mismatched suffix versus my driver's license and birth certificate).

I had to request a replacement at the local office. Due to COVID-19 restrictions you could only visit the local office with an appointment and officially it had to be urgent/special need to get an appointment. Not sure if "financers about to cancel a vehicle trade-in if they don't get a photo of my Social Security card now" counts, so I had to play it up. I wasn't lying when I said I had already traded the truck in, the loaner car was due back yesterday, and I can't get the car I'm trading for until I have my SS card, but I did imply I might have trouble getting to work and paying bills, etc. I finally got the appointment and all they could do was give me a piece of paper saying I applied for a replacement... which the financer won't accept.

So, in anticipation of Prime day, I made a list of 3 powered bookshelf speakers for my PC (current BT speakers suck).
My second pick showed up yesterday as a 'Prime member only' flash sale at $30 off, so I bought them.
My first pick had the same flash sale today. So I bought them.
Now I'll have to return the first set as soon as they come in. Flash sales suck.

I'm at work and just realized I forgot to turn off my gaming machine at home. That machine has a high end video card and a core i7 and uses more power than all my servers combined. It's just chugging away for no reason.

Is a game running or is it idling?

Why would a modern CPU and GPU idle at a few hundred watts? My i7/ RTX1070 system is running 70W at the wall as I type this.

They still use lot of power regardless. GPU is a 1070 TI, and I know most GPUs now are quite power hungry. Even my main linux machine I had to put a high end GPU in it since I needed a rather specific make/model/line of GPU AND I needed 2 HDMI ports, so it made my pickings quite slim and I ended up with a high end gaming one in there too. I should actually check to see what is involved in downclocking, as I don't actually need all that power for that machine, I just needed something that works well with Linux and has 2 HDMI ports.

I need to actually measure the power though, but I just assume those two machines probably use a decent amount of power compared to the servers. The servers all have onboard graphics so they tend to use like 75w or so. 75w seems to be the minimum for a DIY machine. SFF OEM stuff can go way lower like 15 watts.
