I'm trying to overlay modern gis on historical maps, and can't get it to work. Problem is I have no idea how to use gis software. I've been fooling with this shit off and on for over a year, and I still have no idea what I'm doing. I can't even perform a simple database query :^S

Spent a solid hour futzing around with my "broken" Kibana queries before I realized that by default, the time scope is limited to the last 15 minutes of activity. So the logs from last night WERE successfully sent over and I wasted an hour.

I drove past by the local McD earlier today and saw the sign of "Pick2For$3". I might have to stop by and check it out even I want to eat healthier.

Stuck doing a reinstall of Windows on a machine I built over 15 years ago. When you build a machine for someone it comes with a life time warranty. I didn't sign up for this shit!

I just hope one of these CDs is really the drivers for that motherboard. That's going to save me lot of grief.

Actually, sorry bro. Been there and will, most likely, be there again. Marriage causes a lot of that.

Architectural > scale > reference > input known reference (length of building, road, river etc.) which will rescale map accordingly.

I received an e-mail from Cartier regarding their watch collections but I went to their website and it won't load when I click on watches.

Cartier's website sucks.

I can't get both layers to show. I can either see the map or the vector data, not both. I'll have to look up some tutorials. Maybe something will jump out at me.

I made my own thread for this and it didn't go anywhere so I'll post it here

So my desktop mouse, a nice Logitech G502 Proteus Core, started hiccuping and slowing down these last couple days. I'd tap on the DPI buttons to kick it up a notch and all would be ok. I checked and cleaned off my mousepad surface, but not the mouse. But it started doing the slowing down/stuttering thing a lot today, then the mouse simply stopped responding altogether.

I pull out my wireless Logitech mouse I use with my laptop. And that works. But not well. And that eventually stops responding. So I'm like this is a Windows issue. But call Logitech anyway, figuring they'd know some Windows solutions too. After a couple requests they ask me to clean the sensors of the mouse.

Lo and behold I flip the mice over to hit them with some canned air and a q-tip and see dust and lint over the sensors. I blow that shit out then wipe and voila, both mice are right back on point.

I just got flummoxed by dustballs on my mouse sensors? I'm an idiot. I thought to clean the mousepad, why not the mice themselves? Fucking was the darndest thing. It's usually the idiot behind the desk when we have IT issues innit. I mean I've been using computers for 25 years. Never ever has mouse sensor lint type stuff been an issue.

What software are you using? I was in GIS for ~13 years.
Qgis. I started playing with it at work for some reason or another. I personally don't need it, but our company sometimes needs data, and always calls a government worker to get it. I think it would be better beimg able to do it in-house, and could be useful for routine trivial queries, where it isn't essential, but makes life just a little bit better. We could also use it by inserting our own datasets. It's all rain day work when I don't feel like doing, or don't have billable stuff. I charge time to it above my two hours show up time if I made productive progress. Otherwise, I just count it as my computer fuck off time which I'd be doing anyway, and it's fun solving problems.

We had a guy color in tax maps, and generate a huge set of spreadsheets that documented all our jobs. We still have the paper maps, but a lot of the data got lost in a server failure.

That's another rain day project. Try to recover a raid array that was on an unknown controller type, and used an unknown format, but presumably 5. I have the two live drives imaged, and need to figure out how to get them mounted, and try to rebuild the array using a blank image.

It's 87 degrees and I'm too cheap to turn on the AC.

Damn that's brutal. I guess I won't complain about the -20C feels like -28 (that's -18F). At least I'm not dripping in sweat.

I have to go in to work at 2am tonight to change the time on all the DMS10's. Though I guess that's not really a FWP, since I can use the OT. :D

Did you Google around for how to show both raster and vector data at the same time in qgis?

I had to change about half a dozen clocks by hand. Come on... it's 2017! Isn't everything supposed to be connected to an auto-correcting network time source by now?

No, not yet. My approach so far has been 'push buttons and see what happens'. I'll have to do a proper job of learning, and start at the start I think. We're supposed to get some weather this Tuesday, but I'm probably gonna take off for a snowy fire and whisky day. This winter's been a huge disappointment, so I gotta take what I can get.

My fwp today is fuckin' DST. I woke up an hour later today, so that got me to Wegmans an hour later, and there were more people. That place turns into a zoo as the day goes on. Also, my cloak of darkness will come an hour later tonight :^S

FWP averted... I got my girl some Wegmans branded grain free food. I've tried different brands a couple times before, and she always inspects the bowl, then tells me I fucked up and put some kind of something that isn't food in her bowl. It looks like she likes this stuff. Whitefish and peas. $8 for a 3# bag. I'll see how it goes, but I'm hoping it'll keep her healthier.

edit:
I forgot, even though I got to Wegmans late, they still didn't have sushi made. Sigh...
