Just tried some oat milk and it's pretty good. It has the consistency of skim but with a slight nutty/vanilla flavor. I don't generally like almond or soy milk but this was surprisingly good. The only problem is that I don't think any of the local stores carry it. It might be at some health food stores but I don't think I've ever even seen it there.

It's really easy to make, all you need is a blender & a strainer:

http://ohsheglows.com/2013/01/10/homemade-oat-milk-easy-fast-cheap/

Instead of a sieve, I recommend getting a nut milk bag for ten bucks on Amazon. Same idea as a cheesecloth, but with a super-fine weave so you can squeeze the pulp & have the liquid come out without getting chunks of whatever you're straining: (you can use it for almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, etc.)

http://www.amazon.com/Nut-Milk-Bag-Reusable-IDEAL/dp/B00KI2RQHU

The thing with almond milk & stuff from the store is that it's basically water with a handful of nuts & a vitamin pill in it, plus some thickeners to keep it from separating. You can easily replicate the flavor at home, but if you follow actual recipes online, it has way more nutrition & you can control the flavor & sugar content. The Very Vanilla Soymilk drink has like 16 grams of sugar per 8-ounce cup, almost like drinking a soda haha. And you can doctor up your homemade drinks with stuff like maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, etc.

That's really interesting. I've seen cheese cloth but for anything finer I though coffee filters were your only option. I guess this is somewhere in between.

But to be honest, that's far too industrious for me. I did check the label though and it has 19g of sugar for 4 oz. But none of it is added. It's just oats and water (plus thickener and some vitamins). That's sort of weird because who would ever think of oats as being sweet.

Yeah, it's funny what comes out tasting different. I was on a strict diet for many years due to food allergies (modern treatments are getting really good in specific cases like mine...2015 was an awesome year for eating real food again!) & tried a lot of weird recipes. One of my favorites is homemade cashew butter, which is freakin' delicious. One of the treats I would make with it was warm cashew butter (either fresh out of the food processor while still warm, or hit up for a just a few seconds in the microwave), mixed with honey & small dark-chocolate chips. Tastes like a awesome, creamy cookie dough. Somehow the cashew butter is actually somewhat sweet by itself! Cashew butter is literally zero effort to make...dump it in a food processor & let it spin for 20 minutes:

http://thehealthyfoodie.com/cashew-nut-butte/

Eventually it hit a point where the oils come out & it basically liquifies, and becomes noticeably sweeter too.

For me flash player wouldn't take down the screen overlay while trying to watch the preview of The Expanse episode 5.

Trying to nef while doing year-end backups at work. Target ad keeps popping up, covering the threads.

I posted about it in Forum Complaints, but a Target ad covered up my complaint post :D

I'm going to try to make Palak Paneer but I don't have any of the spices. Now I have to spend about $5 per mini-jar and use half a teaspoon each... It'll pay off if I use it again but still.

No Indian grocery to buy from in bulk?

We finally found an Indian grocery that sells the proper cheese for paneer dishes. We had been using various Mexican cheeses but they melt too readily for paneer dishes.

Edit: Or was this an ironic post for the first world thread? :D

I was not complaining if you mean me, just thought it would be a moot point :)

No no, I should have said "I went & posted a thread" (see edited version). It was ironic...I posted a thread about it, and when my thread loaded, it thread-spammed me on the very issue I was complaining about

11 to 15 debits each month (depends on the bank/CU), 1 ACH transaction per month, paperless only account, and some require you to log in each month.

But you get 3-4% return with FDIC guaranty.
Ok, yeah, one of those. That's usually the problem with them. The other requirements are things I already do, but that many debits/month would probably be a bit of extra work and effort to ensure that the minimum is met.

....or else do one receipt per item at the grocery store. :D

Why do they do that, anyway? I'm guessing that the bank gets revenue from each transaction?

I know where to find Korea town, China town, Italy town, Portugal/Brazil town, and Orthodox Jewish town, but I don't know where Indian town is in my city...

Anyway, raided Walmart and another two local grocers. I couldn't find Paneer cheese anywhere but Walmart... It was $3.50 for a block. Garam Masala spice was $6.65, Coriander was $3.99.

I don't understand why recipes I looked at said to get Garam Masala AND Coriander AND Cumin... The Garam Masala label said it contains both of those things.

Other problem: while at Walmart, I took a plastic container off the top shelf, the last fucker who touched it didn't lock the lid back in. Piece of shit was top heavy and the lid hit the floor. Used my leg to break its fall and direct it into other plastic containers so the lid didn't break -- but I ended up buying it anyway cause it was what I wanted.

I just noticed that Kristen Schaal is in Kate & Leopold! It's a problem because I feel bad for not noticing the past dozen times I've seen this movie?

Bought a new messenger bag. Wasn't really sure about it so bought it with cash to make a return easier on the store... now I think I really like it and not sure if I should keep it or not. I sold/gave away all of my old messenger bags.

My electric throw is broken. It's lasted years and I love it but Costco was sold out so I had to spend the evening slightly chilled. :(

Van died yesterday, so I'm now driving a BMW suv(forget what it's called) for work. It's old, and half decrepit, but everything mostly works. Anyway, I tried out the seat heater since I've never used one. It made my ass hot. That's it. Not sure what the appeal is. I wouldn't pay a penny to have that in my car.

Oh, and the electronic shit is irritating. I don't like operating machinery by pushing buttons. I'll take levers, and gears thanks. I guess this is some kind of inverted fwp. I'd rather be more third world :^D

Bought the wife new seat covers. Then some asks her if they're the heated kind that you plug into the cig lighter. Her eyes light up and she asks me about those.

Found her a can of beanie weenies in the cabinet.:D

On the couch, again.....

RoFL! The problem with women is they just aren't practical. They reject perfectly fine solutions to problems, and go with something that costs money just cause it's "official"

I felt the same way when I bought my prius. Now that it's cold as fuck, I love those damn seat warmers.

And that's my problem, I thought beanie weenies were official. Eff, ramen noodles made the official list. :\

I would ask for a new rule book but the last one I had, the words changed quicker than the debt clock.

Heated seats are nice, but not something I'd spend extra money on.

What I WOULD spend extra money on is some kind of electric pre-heater so that when I first start the car I get heat right away instead of waiting till the engine is hot enough. Really that should be a standard feature, there would be a heat element in the ventilation system which would turn on until the engine generated heat is high enough.

Remote start, ftw. I don't have one and the after market was expensive so...send the 14yo out to start the truck.:D

Also had a couple in the state kill themselves accidentally with one. Parked the car in the garage and the remote was hit.
