Hummm, I don't remember third world countries have the transportation system/streets (especially the thousands of miles of widespread highway system) as in the US and yet, I did spent time at a few of those third world countries.

Understood. You have inadequate aqueducts. 🙂

It's raining non stop, except for the 3 days that I have to work starting Friday, then it starts to rain again. I have yard work I want to continue and can never do it because it always starts raining. So sick of this rain. Our summers seem to mostly end in July now days. August is mostly just rain.

Was out of Almond Milk, so I went with a glass of milk. Welp, the GF now refuses to come into the living room and I am pretty sure I am going to need a new couch, as the smell is going to be in this one for life.

I think we're about to get rid of landline at $35/month and go to VOIP at $4/month + $100 box. Leaning towards Ooma but now I gotta do tons of research🙁.

As a lactose intolerant individual I feel your pain.

Check out ITP - https://www.itpvoip.com/

It's $10/month and they give you a host of features like white/black lists, forwarding, simultaneous ring, scheduling and much more.

For $5/month more you can get a separate fax line, assuming you need something like that. Can also get your own toll free number for all of your friends and relatives in prison.

Lo siento, no soy ciudadano de los Estados-Unidos.

Oh, wait, it works in Canada too. What the hell is Canada in Spanish?

Need a router with a power switch -- going to use it as a wireless AP since I'm happy with my router, don't need 24/7 wifi. Why the hell is it so hard to find one that isn't super expensive?

Edit: Okay, phail me. Looks like a bunch of D-Links have a power button, found one for fitty.

Ubiquiti access points and control software allow you to set on off times by schedule if that fits your bill. Their wireless is SO much better than anything you can buy outside of full commercial equipment. A single access point costs a bit more than $50, but surprisingly little for how much better they are. If you get more than one, the benefits dramatically increase - full house coverage, seamless transfer from one AP to another. I've never had to reboot mine outside of firmware updates. http://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Netw...=UTF8&qid=1440097649&sr=1-1&keywords=ubiquiti

This is the only reason I am still awake right now. Some idiot family member dumped 6 gallons of milk in my fridge because she didn't have enough room in hers. Now I am forced to use it before it goes bad. I've had to run to the restroom three times since midnight.

I'm feeling much better now.

started a new project in a different city for 3 days a month (commute is 1 hour by train)...its friday and everyone left at 1...beer o clock is what they call it...seriously the HP HQ are quiet as a cemetery...oh well...gonna go for a casual stroll through the city before my train arrives

Got burned by my damn frozen dinner.

Used a plate in the microwave to avoid spatter and cook faster (steam). Well, the first 4 minutes didn't make the covering plate really hot and the mashed potatoes were still frozen. So, I popped it in for another 90 after mixing the potatoes. I didn't think the plate would get that hot or forgot the plate gets hot at all... Ouchies to my left hand. Managed to push the plate back into the microwave before dropping it so no mess, but I lost a chicken strip!

Have $30 in Kohl's cash but don't know what to spend it on.

Kohls. 🙁

A huge store stocked full with shiny, shiny goods that still often manages to have nothing I really want at a price I'm willing to pay even with things marked 40% and 50% off, and having a 30% off coupon and Kohl's cash to spend to boot.

How do they do that? Is it the Radio Shack of department stores? :hmm:

I feel like I'm missing key parts of this story . . . like why this family member had an extra 6 gallons of milk in the first place, why she bought so much if she knew she didn't have room for it all herself, plus why you feel obligated to drink it all if you're lactose intolerant?

Did she run into a BOG6 sale on milk somewhere? Of did she happen to rescue a herd of Christian Cows from the MDC (Muslim Dairy Cowliphate)?

Just how many kids does she have (I'm assuming there are kids involved)?

And finally, do you hide the deep shame of your obviously unmanly inability to process dairy from . . . your family? 😱

The only redeemable thing about Kohls is that despite the expiration date, they will take any Kohl's cash you have.

I can't do any work today because the fiber connection to our west coast data center seems to be broken.

fixing it is way outside of my purview, so I'm just kinda twiddling my thumbs while watching a ping window... otoh, this is just going to end up being work I'll have to do over the weekend once the connection is restored. :\

Just curious, are you working at home or in the office?

I know someone in IT/development who has to log-in at 6 am in the mornings often to check an important service/server at work. However, she's an idiot and does it from home, relies on a single residential-grade internet connection, no back-up plan -- unless you count yelling at everyone "OMFG, F*ck you, why doesn't the internet work, I need it for work, OMG". She's mid-30s.

I'm in the office, in NYC.

from what I gather, there's a broken cable somewhere in the midwest that's preventing us from reaching servers in our west coast data center (which isn't a mission critical issue since that's all just disaster recovery stuff, but the big project I've been working on for the last couple weeks is building out one of the DR storage arrays)

If a single point of failure is preventing access, it is pretty poorly designed IMO. Unless the datacenter itself is having problems, I'd bring this up as a pretty major issue.

We ate out at a Persian restaurant last night. The servings were so huge we had to buy a new cooler to bring the leftovers home. Whenever someone orders the Tour of Persia dinner, food riots break out in Bangladesh.

I don't know if anyone actually cares, but it's a valid point.

my understanding of this DC is that it's purely going to be for data archival (ie: patient records, since I work at a hospital). we have 2 other data center's that we use for production and primary-DR (ie: total replica of the production DC minus any dev/testing servers)
