We live in a very touristy beach town. Fireworks are banned in many cities here in western WA, including mine, but that ban does NOT include the beaches...and while firecrackers and bottle rockets are illegal...just about every kind of fireworks are available at the fireworks stands just up the road on the res.
It sounds like WWIII down near the beach...and will get crazy after dark.
High tide to ight is just before 10 pm...gonna be a fucking zoo trying to get off the beach...and idiots trying to drive through the very soft "sugar sand" in parts of the beach.

My Facebook feed is filled with posts asking the town to stop setting off fireworks because it scares their dog.

Sounds like someone bought a cowardly pet with a nervous bladder, and wants the rest of the town to suffer because of their poor purchase decision. Nope!

Are you that stupid naturally...or do you have to work at it? Have you ever owned pets...especially dogs?
With yheir superior hearing, unlss they're de-sensitized for it, the loud explosions from fireworks can really fuck up dogs...Little rat dogs, big dogs...nothing cowardly about them.

I don't support stopping LEGAL fireworks use just because it bothers dogs though. There are many ways to help a dog get through the onslaught...including getting the hell out of town and going someplace quiet.(er)
I DO support the cops busting every inconsiderate fucktard who blows up the night with a truck full of ILLEGAL fireworks...especially if you live in an area suffering a drought. Lots of structure and wildfires get started by those morons.

Got a carpet bagger hummingbird. Nothing all season, changed the water, nothing. Last night, I get buzzed by one. Like, "Yo, where's my dinner." Fixed the water and now he's buzzing us every time we walk by.

His lifespan is diminishing if he keeps on since I have shot producing projectiles.

I have exactly one hummer this year, and I've only seen him twice. I was afraid Spot got a hold of him he was gone so long, but he just doesn't like my feeder this year I guess. I've never had a lot of them. 3-4 is most I've seen, and usually just a nesting pair.

Another branch sent me a request for a quick and dirty geological description of a property.

Me: "Will do, where is the property?"
Them: <silence>
Me: "I need to know where the property is located if I'm going write this report."
Them: <silence>
Me: "The property is overlain by some crumbly shit with some smelly crud mixed in. Beneath the crumbly shit is a bunch of harder stuff. Under that is some really heavy, really hard, dark rock. Below that is some molten rock for quite a ways down. Below that is the best damn iron-nickel ore no one's ever seen. Below that is where we hit the first turtle."
Them: "????"
Me: "Got my location yet?"

The feds more or less banned shipment of e-liquid back in April.

Seems more like a tax grab than anything else.
I'm almost out of my flavored juice...still have about 300ml of unflavored...we have one small vape store in town here...gonna have to check it out.

"ALBANY, N.Y. (May 18, 2020) - The New York State Department of Health today announced that two signature pieces of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's Comprehensive Tobacco Control Policy take effect today. The first law prohibits the sale of flavored nicotine vapor products, and the second bans the sale of all tobacco and nicotine vapor products in pharmacies. Both Executive Budget Proposals were included in the enacted FY 2020-21 budget.

"The ban on flavored nicotine vapor products will protect our children, who, thanks to the tobacco industry's marketing efforts, have been using vaping products at alarming rates," said New York State Commissioner of Health Dr. Howard Zucker. "Starting today, we will no longer permit Big Tobacco to target young New Yorkers for a lifetime of nicotine addiction."

The law does not include flavorless and tobacco flavored nicotine vapor products, as well as nicotine vapor products that are approved by the FDA, which has currently approved none."

That stuff should have been banned ages ago. Zero regulation on what can be in it.

7am...Windows updates shits the bed. Needs to roll back changes. Goes into an update/rollback/boot-loop.

I grab a fresh 21H1 ISO from MS and format/reinstall.
After install finishes, it finds a cumulative update to install, and does the same damn thing (fails, rolls back, tries again, etc.)
It finally unscrewed itself after the 2nd time 'undoing changes'. Updates and program reinstalls finished.

12pm...Printer runs out of black ink. Just needed to print out a few document pages (text only.) Only after going and purchasing a new ink cartridge and installing it, THEN the printer software has a popup that informs me that one of the color nozzles needs to be cleaned (and of course won't allow a B&W print without this being done.)

4pm...My three-month old Crucial MX500 1TB SSD shits itself in the middle of copying files to it (was in an external USB enclosure, was not the cause of the earlier Windows issues.)

Technology is hating on me today, lol.

Bought a new Wifi 6 router to replace the crap one Spectrum gives you, dl speeds over wifi are now 40-50mb when they were 90-100mb before. Tried everything I could figure out to get it back to 100mb with no luck. So now I only have mildly fast internet.

DSL went down yesterday. No internets overnight.
Called AT&T this morning, and got a technician to stop by the house within 2 hours of my call. Whoa.
He replaced the phone cable running to the nearby telephone pole. Said it had been "chewed by a squirrel."

So internet's back on the menu. (But that's for the good news thread.)

All but the 1st line sounds like good news.

Google Fit is telling me I am lazy. Only have 3,500 steps in today because I didn't go for a run and went to the gym and lifted weights instead. Didn't walk to the subway station because I biked to work. Didn't walk at lunch because I biked to and from and appointment. Won't be walking to or from the subway station after work either because I will be biking home. I will probably end the day not meeting my step goal.

Could have saved the $ on the Fit. Your friends of ATOTDC would be glad to bust your balls for being lazy for free.

We have these APP modules at work we need to do all the time, you basically read through everything then do a test at the end.

Doing one right now and it's this interactive thing where you have to click stuff and it's super slow and annoying to use. It takes like 5 minutes for new things to show up so you can move forward. Just let me click through and read so I can move on FFS! What a crappy design.
