Bought a new rifle Saturday morning and the background check was super slow yesterday. So no new toy until Wednesday when I have time to pick it up.

I installed Xubuntu on the boss' computer today. Watching him use a computer is painful. He's a spaz, and just starts clicking shit, and not listening to what I say. I probably have a couple months of bitching ahead of me now, but at least it's one less virus box for me to worry about. I'm pretty sure I could teach my cats to use a computer better than him in less than a year :^D

Speaking of bowling, I haven't play a game since high school. <awe>
Don't start. At least don't get involved in a league. It's as bad as golf in terms of the addiction factor. You bowl one good game and you spend the rest of your life trying to figure out why you can't do it again. You figure if you go during the week to practice maybe that will help. Maybe a new ball or a special glove or different shoes. Then you start getting superstitious. What did I have for lunch, or maybe breakfast. What shirt was I wearing. How many warmup shots did I take. It's just a matter of time before you start buying talismans and hex bags, charting your horoscope and getting your tarot read. That way madness lies.

Your cat doesn't need a computer, he/she probably already has you trained to do whatever it needs whenever it needs it.

Go ahead, tell me I'm wrong. ;)

LOL my cat has actually managed to do things on the computer that I did not even know were possible. I was installing Windows XP once, and she managed to open a command prompt during the install. Had no idea that was even possible. Some kind of dev tool for debugging I suppose. Commands like ipconfig worked too.

Meanwhile in Linux you can pretty much use it while it's installing, on lot of distros. :p

Winter has cum. And I'm looking for boots again because I only have a pair of running shoes -- destroyed by old pair of boots, gave away the other.

What I want are Hunter Wellington's but in leather. I am having trouble thinking of search terms that don't involve the words "nazi" and "gestapo."

The word you're looking for is "tactical." You can substitute that pretty easily for the others and generally get similar results w/o the white power nonsense.

^So, it's called a "Jackboot" and the term is supposedly associated with Nazis and Stalin.

Went to look up an old Amazon order, ended up going through this year's orders... Man, I buy a lot of useless shit. Most of my orders this year are now sitting in storage and/or not used. And I haven't spent much this year.

LOL yeah I buy lot of useless stuff too. I'd say more than half of the stuff I buy is just so I can get free shipping.

I have not made a single Amazon order since I got my central A/C though. I promised myself I'd pay that off before I spend money on stuff I don't need.

Working on the conversion script for my old forum and discovered just how BRUTAL Invision Power Board 1.x was. Rather than store the bbcode in the database it would store the actual html. I suppose that is more efficient so you don't have to reprocess the bb code on the fly each time a post loads... but dammit is it making my job harder. preg_replace only goes so far. I may have to parse some of this char by char. At least they added some comment code to indicate the start and end of a quote, so there's that. I can probably look for that block, then run a separate function to strip all the html out, then do some preg_replaces.

Hopefully the code will be similar for IPB 2.x so I don't have to rewrite it all. I have a 2.x forum I'll be processing too.

I have a power of attorney for an elderly friend whose memory of her bank cash flow is very uncertain.I left the PoA with the branch manager 4 days ago and still no approval, meanwhile her relatives have inadequate info on her finances to arrange assisted living. I called the manager again today to forcefully request the bank get off its thumb--and she hung up on me !

Edit--I guess I should take a course or something.

Just get him a NUC with Deepfreeze & a 128gb USB stick for storing his files, then set it to reboot nightly in task manager & have it auto-scan the USB stick on bootup for viruses :D

And I think it may even be non-restricted in my country -- no, google says it may be. Oh well.

Edit: I need to get a cat/dog and just film it. My YouTube channel is ready to take off but I've run out of ideas.

Thought I was going to be slick and make a trip to Home Depot in the middle of the day to avoid traffic. Apparently, the only people that work in Chicago today were the construction workers on my fucking route. Took me 45 minutes to get there and 8 minutes to get home...

I went to photograph the walls of a mine that has fluorescent minerals. The wall that had thick bands of good stuff was getting indirect sunlight coming in through the tunnel entrance. Stupid winter light. Here are a couple pics of the walls that weren't in sunlight.

The mayor in my city may be about to start tolling the two big freeways that run through, which I support -- I don't use them, surprise. But he's pushing through garbage collection privatization that I kinda don't but am more ambivalent about. Not sure how to feel.

As inefficient as the government is, it seems when they privatize something it just gets even worse. They privatized the snow plowing here years ago, and now it's so hit and miss. Nothing like driving on roads that feel more like ski doo trails lol. The side roads can get pretty bad.

Just look at your hydro delivery rates and the 407 toll highway rates

My daughter's computer is fuxxored, and I'm having difficulty working around in it cause I haven't used Windows in years(it's 8.1). I left her last night with a decision; I'll try a restore and hope the magic tools work, or I'll install Xubuntu. I guess I'll find out later what the decision is. I don't have a thumb drive big enough to create a restore image, and do a full reinstall. If she ends up not liking whatever route we go, I'll just buy her another machine. I kind of like her computer(HP Stream) anyway and wouldn't mind having it myself.
