I had a client that just updated from 8 to 9 last year.

They also finally finished phasing out XP... in favor of Vista

I did not stutter. Brand new, fresh out of the box, two years obsolete laptop featuring a fresh image of IE 9.

Compatibility with corporate software is a major deterrent to upgrading for many corporations.

This particular client is "Fortune 5", or at least they are in most years.

They've been in the process of upgrading us to windows 7, and they're making IE 7 the new standard to phase out 6. They're also no longer allowing people to use Firefox or Chrome which is going to suck. I think 7 has tabbed browsing though at least. I don't know why it took MS so long to implement that when every other browser had it from the start.

Do you remember just how old IE6 is? Firefox caught on loooong after IE6 and IE7 had tabbed browsing before Chrome even existed.

I think Opera was the first mainstream browser to have tabbed browsing, but it's *really* stretching to call Opera "mainstream."

I'll bet they do that in 2nd and 3rd world countries, as well. In fact, it's probably much more common in 2nd and 3rd world countries.
