SOMEHOW, my wife managed to lose her S21Ultra phone today.

Ever since we signed up with Linked In, we haven’t had access to our phone Verizon accounts. Until now, it was just a minor inconvenience. (I’ve complained to Linked in several times…they assured me they’d get it fixed)
But…now, we don’t have access to the account, so we can’t lock the phone or use Verizon to find the phone…and we can’t replace the phone via the insurance without account access.

Edit.

<phew> the Safeway store called. One if their courtesy clerks turned in her phone a while ago…<phew>

Bad bout of storms in the DFW area last (just finished pouring pretty good and will probably continue through tomorrow)...

The lightning took out my A/V receiver (two year old Onkyo HT-RC360 that was plugged into a Belken power conditioner but I don't have receipts for either and not sure how much it would have cost to ship them to CA - the receiver weighs like 20 lbs or so).

Also, my a/c blower motor in the attic doesn't seem to be working (but at least the outside condenser unit still works) so I have an appointment for Monday to have it checked out.

I have ten alexa controlled ceiling disk lights and 8 of them no longer work properly. They don't completely shutoff off or they don't change to the right color.

1/2 of my low voltage landscape lights didn't come on tonight. Lastly, my GFCI plug in the attic was blinking red and wouldn't reset after pushing the Reset button on it. I was at least able to swap this out easily as the air purifier system (that sucks the 'stale' air inside the home and replaces it with 'fresh' air from outside) was plugged into this.

Wonder if it worth looking into a lightning rod or something to prevent this from happening in the future.

At least, there wasn't a direct strike to start the house on fire so I am thankful for that.

I don't know if it would have helped, but we just put in a whole-home surge protector and a 3rd grounding bar in the main panel. The surge protector likely isn't going to eat a direct strike, but they're supposed to help a lot with indirects (and ancillary effects).

It never rains but it pours…literally.

We have a major storm hitting the PNW atm, which is fine…we need the rain, BUT the 2nd story window we had replaced last spring is leaking like mad. Got a call i to the contractor who did the work. ( leaking between window frame and opening in the vinyl where we cut out the old window.)

He actually showed up! Not much we can do until it stops raining, but we have it “diverted” so the rainwater goes into the tub instead of down the walls.

FML.

I've lost or broken eight crossbow bolts so far, and really haven't done that much shooting. I already ordered 36 more aluminum bolts, and 60 all plastic(aside from the tip). I need to see if anyone sells the fletching plug only. I have three bolts missing fletching, where the plastic just broke off. They're otherwise usable. Maybe get a dowel that fits, and make my own fletching from feathers.

I've never heard of that happening. The Koreans really do make some shit appliances, don't they? I'd feel pretty bad if my creations were fucking up as much as theirs are. I'd figure I wasn't cut out for that kind of work, and do something I was actually good at.

Wow that's a pretty dangerous failure mode. You'd think it would have some sort of separate safety cut off if it overheats.

My mom has a convection oven that has fans and one of the fans has a bad bearing, every time I go over I tell her I can probably fix it but she insists she just wants to replace the whole oven but it's been like that for years. They really don't make appliances like they used to.

Power has been out here and most of the coast for about 2 hours. High winds. Hoquiam (about 25 miles) had some gusts over 75 mph. About 40 here. My neighbor's fence isn't going to survive the night.
Edit. Power was out for about 9 hours. Thank gawd for my little generator. Had SOME lights, TV/Dish, PC with phone hot spot, and the pellet stove.

I just had a quick back and forth e-mail conversation with a software maker, told them that the server doesn't support <X>, so they responded with "I just ran a quick check on this server and it doesn't support <X>, should that be the case?".

Dude, don't make me write a "as per my last e-mail"... come on, engage brain, please.

AWS went down a few days ago and somehow my nest thermostat went wonky.. didn't notice but it wasn't heating, used ChatGPT and it gave the exact opposite answer to the solution! Nice, AI NOT to the rescue.

Then i noticed that my wyze cams were taking a dump and the ones with the solar panels weren't charged.. wtf.. it rained really hard a few days prior as well but i guess water got into the connection with the panels and the cams stopped recharging the onboard batteries. had to spray ECC (tetra-chloro-ethane) and punched a hole in my liver AND the ozone layer to get them working again.

Lastly, the damn skybell doorbell (really cheap to use video doorbell) finally died and now in addition the video camera being dead, the actual button is also not responding - just in time for halloween.

So almost all of my convenience gear all decided to die simultaneously - i'm bitching as i'm sitting in my house with my fireplace going and warm, moaning my fate of having to wear a sweater, actually look outside, and go to the front door if it rings.

My very own lurker! I think I should get some kind of award for this one. It's the rarest of the rare. Makes a Fabergé egg look common.

I'm either having a stroke, or the edison style led in my lamp is getting wonky. Seems to be getting brighter, and pulsing a bit. On it's way out?
