What File system?

With your XP you should be using NTFS,I`ve tried both FAT32 & NTFS with my XP and prefer NTFS,so unless you need dual boot etc stick with NTFS.

🙂

you cant dual boot with ntfs?

And Should I reformat then delete my partitions , and partition again? IE( I currently have 2 partitions (30 &30)

Not a noticable one. Read the FAQs, I think there is information about this there, or search anandtech forums. They arent all that big, but they have plenty of info (especially the OS forum, plenty of info about NTFS).

You can either convert it as in the FAQs or reinstall and setup NTFS then.

Well I am going to switch TO NTFS Hope I am makin the right choice ... BRB I hope tonight!

formating time😉

using NTFS right now.... Just one quick question...
Is it me or .... Is my harddrive more active then in fat32?.

I have switched to NTFS on three systems running XP Pro. I can revert any time . . . have duplicate HDDs still on FAT32 . . . but the evidence is fairly clear. XP likes NTFS better and things like disk optimization are faster than with FAT32 . . . but quite slow compared to 98 and ME.

HDD activity is no greater unless you somehow allowed your page file to run in a variable mode. I prefer a fixed page file size on a separate, dedicated partition so that none of the swap dynamics keep fragmenting my files and data.

In NTFS, sharing has some different rules and standards if you are running a home network. It does allow greater security, etc., but on a single user home network, that is really overkill. The trick is to find out how to disable those barriers.

I think you'll like NTFS . . . I'm about ready to get rid of my FAT32 backups and go NTFS all the way. The downside is losing the capability to make repairs on Windows files from a DOS boot disk and a good DOS file manager. However, the need to be able to do that has really faded away. 🙂

I use NTFS myself, but be careful - if you ever have a major problem with the sys, you can only access the drive through another XP rig or NT.
