What file System is the standard now?

XP Home still uses FAT32. I use NTFS but frankly prefer FAT32, since it is such a pain to reformat with NTFS and I don't really care about the security benefits. I have not detected any performance improvement whatsoever with NTFS.

how is it any different then reformating as fat32?

doesn't NTFS yield advantages once the HD is larger than 2gb because of the way that it allocates space on the HD??

i'm not a big fan of FAT32 and it's cluster sizes etc.
