Good luck burning off 3,000 or 4,000 calories daily with 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Most people have no idea what their calorie intake is from fastfood, or their sodium intake. My wife and I rarely eat at sonic anymore, due to the amount of sodium, calories, and their lack of a heart healthy menu selection.

Do the math, there are only X amount of calories you can burn off with 30 - 60 minutes of exercise.

I'm guessing I eat 3,000-4,000 calories daily. Not 100% sure cause I don't count calories but I know I have no problem scarfing down tons of calories. I weigh 179lbs. I don't have some great metabolism naturally. I've built one up though by gaining muscle. I work out 30-45 minutes daily and that's it. I know I'm in great shape because I outrun guys 20 years old at the basketball court and I'm 30. I don't eat fast food at all though.

Fuck 1300 calories for a meal? That's typically for lunch too.
I know that when I eat out, I gain weight. I lost weight when I visited my folks in Toronto for a couple of weeks since I ate home cooked food most of the time when I was there.

Anyone want to guess what a Chipotle burrito is for calories? And that's before you toss in a 32oz Coke.

Alone posted the chart 🙂

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!! 3071 mg of sodium?

Better have your high blood pressure pills handy. That is twice the recommended daily intake of sodium.

When I was working in welding shops for 10 hours a day, I could eat pretty much anything I wanted. But then again I was doing manual labor and on my feet all day. I would probably walk 3 or 4 miles daily on the job. One shop I worked at, it was almost 1/4 mile long

This is a damn travesty. They really need to start up mandatory fat camps and begin fining people who become obese as a result of not watching their diet. Government can rake in a good amount of cash from the fines.

it depends on what you have put in it. I'm guessing 1000-1200...

Some of them are upwards of 1600 or more depending on how much cheese & sour cream the prep line slathers on there.

And then you have your 400+ calorie sugar bombs "caffe" drinks from Starbucks and the like that are a desolate void of empty calories.

How about a couple slices of Digorno pizza you cook at home? Over 700 calories and over 80% of your sodium for the day.

But hey, lets hate on McDonalds and the like!

I've never had a Chipotle Burrito, but holy shit it better be amazing.

Though I couldn't imagine exceeding my daily sodium intake in one piece of food.

They are freaking amazing. The blood in the underwear is completely worth it to a nice big Chipotle burrito.

What's worse are soups. Go look at a can of Campbells minestrone or vegetable soup. It's like 80% of your sodium for the day. But hey...it's only 250 calories!

That's sad. Some of those girls went from the hottest girl in their social group to the token fattie in the social group.

It didn't happen because of fast food though, it happened because they didn't care enough to do something about it.

It's easy for people to pick out the biggest name in fast food. The truth is it's easy to eat unhealthy anywhere (whether it be a restaurant, fast food, or a home cooked meal). People need to be aware of what they're consuming regardless of where it came from.

I can get it around 700 by getting a bowl no sour cream, light on the cheese and a ton of hot sauce. Still has mega salt though...

I just recently cut out all my canned soups (my favourite thing in the world; tomato soup and campbells chunky chicken noddle). They're insanely high in sodium. I'm working on reducing my use of Soya Sauce as it's absolutely horrible.

That's what they do in Japan. The law says you have to keep your waist under 85cm for men, 90cm for women.

When my wife was pregnant she developed toxemia and swelled up from all the fluid in her body. She was put on a mega sodium restriction...under 800mg a day. You don't realize just how horribly salt ridden foods are until you need to really watch for it.

Some slices of bread are like 5% or more of your sodium for the day. Have two slices, of bread, a piece of american cheese, and a few pieces of packaged lunch meat and you just hit about 50% or more of your intake for the day.

The sneakiest ones are in the "all natural" chicken breasts in the frozen section. Some of them you have to look out for the "soaked in a solution of natural brine and juices" discretely put on the label because they have 15% of your sodium for the day per piece of chicken. You have to look for the ....TRUE all natural that have virtually zero sodium in them.

But pretty much assume if it comes out of a box, bag or can, it's going to be slathered with salt.

My new grocery list is relatively low in sodium:

Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast (from the butcher, not seasoned or anything)
Canned tuna (in water, for less...everything)
Whole Grain Wraps
Peanut Butter
Leafy vegetables (spinach)
Grapes
Eggs
1% Chocolate Milk
Yellow Mustard
Lean Ground Beef
Nuts

more like lack of exercise.

wrong, lack of exercise wont make you fat. Eating thousands of excess calories will, more so when a majority of it is fructose. The lack of education on this is what makes the problem worse. People think that just because they exercise they can eat whatever they want, sorry it doesn't work that way...

You can still exercise and work off excess calories. Obviously this is the case for athletes. I realize that's an isolated group, but saying exercise isn't part of the question is ignorant.

But I mostly agree that diet is the biggest part in weight control.

I'm not saying exercise isn't part of being healthy, but when you're eating thousands of excess calories it really doesn't matter when it comes to weight loss. Burning even 1000 of 3000 extra calories a day may slow down the weight gain but not by much. Also look at those athletes diets, I promise you 95% of them don't include fast food on a regular basis. I eat considerably more than most people and I'm so far from fat it's not even funny, even at 230lbs.
