I am looking to buy a fan to put on an Alpha PAL 8045 as well. I will be cooling an Athlon XP 1800, not overclocked, but possibly in the future. I have heard that the Panaflo H1AX fans are the way to go as they provide a good cooling to noise ratio. Some might recommend the Panaflo LIA(X) model, but I believe this to be too low CFM to cool most procs. I am interested to hear what people say between Panaflo or Papst. What do others think? Also, where is the best place to purchase some of these fans with 3-pin headers on them?

I've got the stock fan that comes with the 8045, I think it's like 32 cfm. Temps are fine when not overclocked, and when I overclocked my xp1600 to 1.6ghz it was fine, but now that the warmer weather is coming back it's getting a tad unstable. I am definitely considering a more beefy fan for this summer since I live in Houston...

I have an 8045 on a 1800xp. I am using a sunon 22db/24cfm. Or you could use a panaflo L1a. Works great. On my msi k7t266pro2 I idle about 38/39 and load about 44

I would definitely go with Enermax 80mm Fan.

Variable fan speed from 1000 -- 3000 rpm +/- 10%
Includes a gold grill for a nice appearance
80x80x25mm
39.8 CFM of Air
32.6 dba
Includes separate 3 Pin connector and optional 4 pin connector

You can change the speed of the fan by turning the knob. It's really cool, right now I have it at 2000rpm, but in the summer, I'm gonna change it to 3000rpm. It's really nice. Purple case and clear white fan with gold grill (which you can take off of course). Looks really nice and stays quite. www.coolerguys.com has it for $9.95. My friend had Papst 12dB/20CFm 80mm fan, but he changed it to Enermax Fan.

I have Alpha 8045U (delta fan included in this model) in an Antec 1030 case. I've never seen a loaded cpu temp over 41C, with XP1600 @ 148MHz FSB.

I just ordered 4 of the cheap Panaflo L1A 80mm fans. I'm going to replace at least the two Antec case fans and Antec PS fan. They're so noisy that I can't hear the 8045U fan noise above the background noise of the Antec case and PS fans.

If internal case temp remains good with the case & ps Panaflos installed, I'll try the remaining Panaflo on the 8045. I'd gladly accept a few degrees higher cpu temp to get rid of the fan noise.

I'm using a Panaflo L1A on my Alpha PAL8045. It came with a Delta that drove me insane. My room's quite cool right now and I'm idling at 43. Under load I'm at 47 or so. When it gets warmer, my idle/load temps never seem to go over 46/51. I have the Wavesonic/Enermax PS version of the Antec SX1000 case (black and purple.. neato :)) with 4 Panaflo L1A's in it and a dual fan Enermax PS for some more exhaust.

Loudest thing is my grinding, whining, motherboard fan.

I'm running a 48.5 cfm ys-tech, it works pretty well. quite compared to the rest of the case, 4 pin however =(

I too am using the panaflow L1A fan on my Alpha 8045. I previously was using a high output fan which drove me crazy at night. After I switched, the comp was stable and the temps only went up about 2 degrees C, so I'm in no hurry to switch back. this is on my 1700XP overclocked to 140 FSB.
