I got the heatsink in the mail today but didn't get a phan for it. I thought I could throw one of my TT 80mm case fans on it. What are most folx using for this application? I just got a seasonic psu so I should be lookin for some low noise soon.

Thanks,

Gravity

Get a vantec stealth if you want low noise. They come in 80mm and 92mm. You can find them at www.svc.com, or you can use your 80mm you currently have.

Almost any fan will do. Are you overclocking? Go with a higher (and louder) RPM or a variable speed that you can ajust for gaming or whatever. I have the 800U that I've tried with many different fans. Currently on my XP2100+ (o/c'ed 2Ghz) is a CoolerMaster AeroBlower 7 w/ ajustable speed. At 3000 RPM, Seti and UT2003 never pushes my proc higher than 47c. (case temps 23c just for reference)

92mm Panaflo L1A. $5.99 at SVC. Decent airflow and silent from 3" at 5V. Reasonably quiet and lots of air at 12V.

I have the Ys-Tech 92mm fan from svc.com, it pushes 66cfm@40dba. Works great if you dont mind the noise. There is a good review of it and a couple other fans here.

I bought the Zalman ZM-F2 92 mm fan that can be run in full mode and silent mode. I'm running it in silent mode on the SLK900a right now and it's very silent. Unless the rest of your components in your case are dead silent, you won't hear it. I'd say it's on par with the Panaflo L1a in the 80 mm as far as noise.

I don't like the Stealth fans. I think they fudge their numbers. I compared a 80 mm Stealth fan to other quiet 80 mm fans a while back and it was clearly louder than the rest even though it was rated at the same db. Also, I think that their packaging is expensive and wasteful. I'd rather have Vantec drop the price on the fan a few bucks than put it in such a fancy box.

If you look at the website stealths runs at 2 setting 21 dba or higher. You determine this by pluggin it into your MB and changin somethin.
