what fan filter to get?

How are your fans set up? You probably dont need any on your exhaust fans (probably the rear ones). I have one of those filters on my side window fan. I cant comment on its effectiveness since I have only had it a few days, but i know it does restrict a ton of airflow. I have heard the metal ones restrict a lot less, but i have never used one. Metal Filter

You only want filters over your intake points...
Instead of buying fan filters, I just bought generic airconditioner replacement material (not an insert)... the kind you cut yourself.
Its like $2 for a few square feet at hardware stores. I covered the inside of the front panel wherever there were intake points.
If I had a visible intake fan I would buy a nice-looking fan filter, but for everything who cares as long as it keeps dust out and doesn't impede what airflow you already have.

Try dryer sheets. Springtime fresh! Cheap and easy to replace instead of cleaning the filter out every so often.

i am using a metal washable filter. all i do is vacuum it to clean it. no worries about having to replace anything, or anything being sucked into the vacuum (foam mesh). many of those filters out there are not meant for this application.

The metal filters are really nice in that you can clean them repeatedly without destroying them.

I've used the cheap foam filter on a few of my cases also. They're also good for other areas of your case where dust gets drawn in, such as empty drive bay covers. I also add some oil to the foam (helps it catch more dust). Its cheap enough that you can just replace it when it gets too dirty to clean anymore.
