What fan do you use on your XP120?

I'm considering getting an XP120 with a Vantec Stealth Pro (53 cfm @ 28db) or Nexus D12SL-12 (36cfm @ 22.5db). I'd like the quieter fan but will that be enough air flow to reach 2.4GHz on a Venice 3000+.

I really don't want to get a louder fan than either of those. I currently have 2 Vantec's as case fans but would consider swithing to Nexus if that was enough cooling. That would leave only the x800xl fan to make noise. Maybe I'll tackle that next month.

The ambient temp of the room is 26C.

thanks.

ps I read the silentpc review but i'm not sure about noise and cfm.

It'll depend on the specific chip, but I think that will be a reasonably achievable goal based on the shipped Venice CPUs we have seen thus far. Temperature on these cores (and Winchesters) doesn't really seem to be a serious issue until you start pushing the voltage way up, and it seems most Venice cores are getting 2400+ on stock voltage.

I have purchased a Venice 3000+ and we'll see what I get with an XP90 (aluminum) and a moderate 92mm fan.

I'm running an xp-120 with some Delta fan I happened to have, with reduced RPM so it's about silent (I doubt it's even pushing 36 cfm). I have core voltage set to 1.6 and frequency at 2.6 GHz, and the highest load temp I've seen is 43 C. To reach 2.4, I presume you could use just about any fan you want... you could probably wave your hand at the bare heatsink and reach 2.4 on stock voltage ;).

xylem, what's your ambient room temp and case temp?

I live in the desert and it costs too much to cool the house down below 78F. I've actually been thinking of building a case out of an old deep freezer.

I'd consider the L1A but every place i've check is OOS. (that is every place i'm comfortable buying from.)

The Vantec's I have are quiet enough for me, I suppose 2 more db is not audibly distinguishable without a well setup side by side test.

BTW, do you know what sidewinder charges for shipping? Or any other places I can get an XP120 with an L1A?

I am using the XP-120 with a Panaflo U1A (45.5db) but I have controlled its RPM through SpeedFan 4.23 so now it´s barely audible. You can buy whatever fan you want but be sure it delivers at least 60 CFM for good performance.Mine at top speed delivers 115 CFM.
Idle temp:30º
Load Temp: 40º
I prefer to buy a fast fan (H1A or U1A) and then control its speed, I f you set correctly SpeedFan, it varies automatically the speed of your fan depending on your Cpu temp.
