You know, I just realized something.
1 + 3 = 4
4 + 5 = 9
9 + 7 = 16
16 + 9 = 25
25 + 11 = 36
etc.

You can find the next perfect square in the left sequence (left side of the +) by adding to it the next odd number in the sequence to the right of the +. Cool.
