I am in the process of building my first computer. I am wondering what "extras" I need. I think I need some fans.

Buy a 2GB kit of the ram you like, not separate 1GB pieces. If you buy them separately, they could differ performance wise if you plan to OC later on.

You will need at least one 120mm fan. The one that comes with it is a 25mm unit and should probably be used in the front. The rear mount can take up to a 38mm fan so you can put just about any 120mm fan there.
. Also you need to check http://www.Provantage.com for Antec prices - they usually beat the Egg by a pretty good margin - Amazon often does too.
. Ground is the only reasonable shipping option from Provantage, but they ship from a number of warehouses. So if you live fairly near a warehouse, the shipping time will still be reasonable.

. I will shortly have some of the finest 120x38mm fans ever made to sell. PM me for the details...

I find stock heatsinks to be too loud. Consider something quieter like the Scythe Ninja. A "quiet case" helps make things quieter, but you need a quiet MB, CPU fan, and VGA cooler as well.

well noise level doesn't really matter to me, just performance. I live in a college dorm with 3 other guys in the same room, so its never actually quiet. my comp is off at night too so that doesnt make a difference.

I think just one in front and one in back will be sufficient. You can always add the side fans (available mounts 1x80mm and 1x92mm) if you find they are really needed.. For the CPU, maybe the Scythe Katana or Ninja if there is room. The Thermalright radial Heatsinks are nice and either the 90 or the 120 should fit. I'd choose the Al-Cu units as they test at nearly the same temps as the 100% Cu units and are significantly lighter.

a better heatsink will help performance as well as noise, but a stock heatsink will be fine for a generic machine. Especially if you're on a budget.

well the performance gains im sure aren't that great. I'm sure I can live without it, I just wanna make sure I won't have any problems.

can anyone recommend some fans?

R u OCing, or r u a noise phreak? If u r, buy a new HS for the CPU. If not, then just stay with the stock HS.

no overclocking, noise doesnt really matter since im at college.

I just need some fans so performance doesnt get WORSE 🙂
