I've tried both and other than the first installation, i have noticied no differnece whatsoever except when going into root. The only thing i notice different is that in RH, i have to do su -, to get a lot of cmmands while Mandrake just su. Are there any other differences than teh instalation and instlaled packages or what?

Mandrake was originally based on RedHat. So it makes sense that it seems similar. If you want to know EXACT differences, use the source luke.

Well... They are both great distro's to begin with, but thats all. I would recomend you to begin with Debian GNU/Linux (http://www.debian.org). It's the only Linux distro not deveoped by a com. corp.

There are plenty of other non-.com Linux distros, not that it should matter at all.

RH is more towards servers & ML is more towards desktops. Both are based on the RPM packaging system. if you are a new to linux, then i would suggest you try out ML since its way easier to learn.

www.madrakeuser.org is the ML user community. great site for help questions & info.
