Red Dawn, it's great to know we have a psychic on this board who knows the "truth". What is it like to know everything? You ignorant fool.

Goth people are a bunch of social outcast freaks. They are the kids who got picked on all their lives so they try to rebel against society. The only thing they are doing is making themselves look stupid.

What I meant by that is I could have many of the same conversations w/my "goth" friends that I could w/my "geek" friends (long winded discussions about computers or Star Wars vs. Star Trek w/enough Monty Python and Simpsons' qoutes going around to choke a horse, etc.). But the goths tend to be a bit darker, and drink more. ;) Same tree different branch, IMO.

Stratum9 gave us the defintion of Gothic architecture, literature, and a sampling of what is stereotypically "goth" music, but for a definition of what the goth sub-culture BennyD gives the better answer (if you can call it an answer).

Unlike like the punk or rave sub-cultures there isn't a single thing that "binds" all goths together (i.e. listening to punk and going to raves are needed to called a punk or raver, respectively, but there's no such "criteria" for being goth).

In Bowling for Colombine, it says the Goth subculture is from Ireland, hmm, or maybe it was Germany. Oh hell, it was one of the Western European countries.

Man, some of you people with your stubborn and ignorant opinions amaze me...I don't need to assert my opinion, as it hardly matters in a "conversation" like this, whereas the original post wasn't looking for peoples' opinions...

I think the question has been answered for the most part, so just let it die...

I found out pretty much all I wanted to know at goth.net. Browsed the forums for a while too. Interesting. My fave was "since goth is non-conformist, aren't we conforming to our own group?" LMAO ... interesting though that cleared up a lot. Thanks for the link.
