what exactly is fanbus?

A fanbus is a switch that allows you to run fans at various voltages. By lowering voltage, you lower fan speed and noise. The voltage change is accomplished by using the 12v and 5v leads on a molex connector. Instead of running @12v by using the 12v line and a ground - it switches to 7v by using the 5v line for the ground.

No No No, a fan bus is a little box that split the wiers from a molex connector from the PSU into multiple connectors so u don't have to use up all of your molex connectors on your PSU to get a number of fans working. A baybus is some sort of voltage regulator that use rheostats to change the voltage to a desiered level that look like this, or it's just on/off switches on a frontplate here are some pictures that maybe make U understand this

Generalen, good explaination. Now what would be better buying three new Panaflo's (L1A) or a rheostat to control the fans I have now?

That depends on how much sound U want in your room! add 3 new 120mm fans and U can't sleep anymore but add a rheobus and U will get some quietness in your room but if U have bad air flow add those 3 fans😀

I'm not adding fans just replacing the ones that I have now with Panaflo's or built a the Rheobus. I have Fong Kai 320, it has good air flow. I just want to lower the noise some. I going to bulit a Rheobus.

anyone know where there are diagrams to make a baybus and a fanbus? who makes premade ones too, b/c i heard they're about the same price.

oh, a rheobus too!

I have to pipe in here and say it isn't even close to the same amount of money to buy one... There are a couple places that want upward of $40 for a switched baybus.. you can build your own, if you have the tools that is, for under $20 depending on what you want to do.

Figure:
switches - $2.00 ea. at RS
wire - $5.00 and you have enough for 100 baybus'
LEDs - 2 for $1.00 at RS (blue ones are expensive though - about 2.50 ea. if bought online)
5pk of LED holders - $0.59 at RS
1 molex connector - I ripeed mine off an old PSU
you'd also need some LED harness' (or you could solder them) I haven't seem them at RS, but ripped some out of an old AT case for mine.

I've never done a rheo-bus myself, so I can't comment on prices there

<edit> a plain old fanbus can be built for about $8
just need:
a project box
a speaker clip terminal
some wire
and a molex connector

Atleast here in Sweden here I live the rheostats itself are very expensive around 20$ each so I can't afford to buy 3 of them this price is for the ones rated 25ohms 12,5 watts. God I love to get some, but to expensive arggg :|
