What exactly does hibernate do in win2k? and whats the point?

people like me with scsi and smp, computers boot slow. smp for somereason boots reall slow. so hiberate saves the system state, like if i had winamp on and word, outlook whatever, its as if i left the monitor on, but instead, i save power.

save NRG. use acpi. just do it.
 
Hibernate writes the content of conventional and Video Memory onto the HDD and shuts down completely (same as turning the PC off).
After BIOS screen, W2K just writes the Data back from HDD to the RAM instead of booting normally...voila, same system status as before...and much faster up...😀
 
Yeah, hibernate really speeds up the bootup process.

But, I feel that after hibernation, my computer is a little less stable. Perhaps some components of my system do not like hibernation? Does anyone have much info on this?
