What exactly constitutes a bump?

Is it just when all you are doing is trying to move up your thread? Or does it also include when you are making notices/updates (what's left, price drops, etc.) and returning PM's (ygpm back and the like) and answering questions? Don't want to be sent on "vacation." ;)

Thanks for any info!

Generally bump is a bump, but most people use all the other things you mentioned as bumps as well. Even though those don't really need to be bumps the MODS don't seem to mind from what I have seen. They have better things to moderate then someone who bumped a threas 3 times in an hour with a bump a YHPM back and and upadte. Know if you start getting carried away and your thread is bumped more then 5 times in an hour using stuff like that, then you may go bye bye. Thats just my 2 cents.

by the way that 5 times in an hour was a guess not an actual stat

Anytime you reply to your own thread whether you say "bump" or post petty things like "this item is sold" is IMO an official Bump. Just edit your original post for items sold or prices changes and stay within the 4 a day/once per 6 hour rule with any of your own posts.

Thanks, guys! I think I lean to Rainguy's interpretation... but there are times when you need to respond to someone in your thread. I guess I am looking for the official Mod-Word on this. :)

Rainguy's advice is good. You can make price updates by editing your original post; you can answer questions by PM and by email. Of course, those things will not cause your thread to rise to the top of the heap, while responding to yourself within your own thread will.

Even if there's information in the bump, it's still a bump, and excess bumpage is a no-no.
