What ever happened to the Pay-To-Surf companies?

I remember one of them being called AllAdvantage. There were MANY others. What ever happened to them all? Are there any still around? Did they not get enough advertisers or did that model not work well because ... ?

alladvantage got cheated big time. People were using automated point/click apps that were written just for these purposes. Not that these didn't help them generate revenue regardless... they just weren't profitable enough in the end. Ads can only help so much... look at all the free storage sites... freedrive/xdrive... they all went to pay memberships after the bubble burst.

I can't remember the name of the place that I did in my freshman year of college, but I ended up with a Palm Vx, a new CD burner, and about $200 cash out of it.

Meh, nowadays they just install spyware/adware and forcefeed you their ads anyway without paying you. But, yeah, I remember there was one site that let you store 3 gigs of music online for free ( forgot their name), and then they went commercial, and deleted my account without notice.

Qool.com was the easiest of them I think. I didn't do any of those autosurfer things but on my own I was able to earn 5-7 DVDs until I got tired of it. That's for just clicking on a few links.

hah, I remember the computers in libraries on campus all had Alladvantage running on them, too bad the idiots (library clerks) didn't bother to check whether it was under their account. Some people would just log them out and put their own account in.

Spedia was also pretty good! And who can forget CashSurfers?!

I used to make a ton off those.

I believe you're referring to myplay.com ... they were great... you could also play the songs right off the site.
