Maybe the same thing that happened to the fourth Die Hard movie that was supposedly filmed at the same time as the third one?

Release Date: TBA 2005 (possibly in the summer)

Distributor: 20th Century Fox

Release Date Notes:

6/11/00 - This movie will most likely be released in the summer of the year following the last season of the TV series. With a 9th season of the show possible for 2001-2002, this would suggest a release in 2003...? TVGuide.com reported in February, 1999 that Chris Carter said the delay between the finale and the movie could even be two years, which would imply 2004 (if 2001-2002 is the last season). (11/7/01) Variety confirms that the earliest we could see it is Christmas, 2003. (4/12/02) Chris Carter told Cinescape this week that the most likely year of release is now 2004. (10/8/03) I've received word that this film is still a possibility, but 2005 would now be the target year.

Production Company: Ten Thirteen Productions (Chris Carter's company; primarily known for The X-Files)

Cast: David Duchovny (Agent Fox Mulder), Gillian Anderson (Agent Dana Scully); other cast not announced yet. It's quite possible that some of the TV show's other cast will also make some sort of appearance.

Director: Not announced yet.

New Cast Note:

7/21/00 - With David Duchovny only doing 11 episodes in the 2000-2001 season, Robert Patrick has been brought aboard as a new character. So, when this movie is eventually made, he may appear in it as well. (1/3/01) Annabeth Gish will also be joining the cast of the TV show as of 2/25/01 as another agent.

Screenwriter: Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz (writing team of 1998's The X-Files)

Based Upon: This will be the second movie based upon the popular Fox show, The X-Files, that debuted in 1993, and will be entering its eighth season in 2000-2001. The first movie was released in 1998, and grossed $83.8 million (USA) for a total of over $180 million worldwide. (1/8/01) The TV show may yet have a 9th season, 2001-2002. (1/27/02) Yep, and it's also the last... the series ends this May.

Premise: Not much is currently known about the possible plot of this one. Like much about the show, there are rumors... but not much that's confirmed. Since there will be some time between the finale and the movie, we'll probably get a better idea of what the movie might be once the series is over. That's when you can expect Chris Carter and others to start thinking, planning, and talking about this next film... (11/7/01) Variety reports that the film will indeed focus on Mulder and Scully, even though Mulder (Duchovny) is no longer on the TV show. Also expect it to be a "stand alone" plot not tied in with the show's complex conspiracy theories (like the first film was).

Filming: Production is scheduled to start sometime in 2004 or early 2005.

Genre: Science Fiction, Thriller

Except in the next movie, following the Hollywood trend of replacing caucasian characters with those of "color", Mulder will be played by Jamie Foxx and Scully will be played by Beyonce.

You know, because nothing is sacred anymore.
