What events do you never forget?

I have heard many people say that certain national tragedies are ebedded in the memories and they will never forget when and where they heard the news. Today's Shuttle tragedy reminded me of this type of event.

For me:

Challenger Explosion - I was walking between classes in High School. Someone mentioned that they heard that the shuttle had exploded. I remember that I even made a joke, think he wasn't serious.

9/11 - I was at work that morning. I hadn't been listening to the news. A co-worker comes running back to where I work and says that planes have hit both of the World Trade Center towers. My first thought "this is no accident!"

I wonder if today's accident will be as memorable🙁

OJ, Diana, JFK Jr (much less so), SF earthquake during World Series, Oklahoma City

The grandaddy of them all: 9/11

911- i was in biology class when my teacher told me that "the world trade center got bombed or something." i made a joke of it by saying, "Oh its just the new sandwich at the WTC: The Big Bomb." Sadly i was totally wrong when i had found out really happened. One of the saddest days of my life...

A vague memory of the first shuttle explosion, then when the gulf war started, and finally in 9/11. These are the only really memorable news events to me.

uh... bad joke ;P

I think it was Jan. 16 1991 - Desert Shield turned into Desert Storm.
Of course, 9/11 is my most prevalent and permanent memory.
I also remember Princess Diana's death.

Diana, September 11, I vaguely remember the challenger (I was only 3), and today will go down as a day I will never forget.

I remember I was up at a sleepover when Diana died. 🙁

I was at a camp called Wolf Ridge when the OK city bombing happened. We didn't get any outside news that whole week. On the bus ride home, I saw flags at half-staff and I knew something terrible happened. 🙁

I will never forget September 11. 🙁

I believe it was Jan. 17, my birthday, and I was in charge of a charity fundraiser at the university that day. I had to stand in front of the crowd and make the announcement.

Thankfully, that battle left very few American losses in its wake.

Challenger - Didn't find out about it until after school had ended, at that point in time, I decided I didn't want to pursue a career as an astronaut anymore. (Sounds lame, but before that I hadn't even thought about the shuttle blowing up).

WTC 1993 Bombing - Came home from school and realized something was seriously wrong when 3 out of 4 local TV stations were just static. I believe CBS was the only station still working, and covering the bombing... (Livng in NJ at the time)

Princess Diana - Woke up the morning I was about to leave for college to find out that she had died.

9/11 - Was at work, just getting settled into start the day when I heard that "two planes had collided over top of the World Trade Center" ... Was confused, thinking it was an accident when we got more accurate reports that two planes had hit the WTC and we immediately thought terrorism. No news websites worked at that point, and then later we heard about the Pentagon... We started to look outside to see if we could see anything (Living in Northern Virginia at the time)..

Challenger: I was 3, and sat down to watch the launch on our new satellite TV.
Desert Storm: I was in middle school when I found out. IIRC, it was 6th grade Science class.
9/11: I was at work, and we had heard that America was under a military attack (ie bombers, ships, fighters, troops landing, etc).

Events never forgetting and major national/world are too entirely different things.

For National/World Events: (I'm 16)

I remmeber when Rabin was assasinated.
I was right there (3 blocks away) for 9/11 so I definitly remember that. Everyone remembers that.
And now I will remember today.
