OK...This guy I know from the bus works at the same LARGE corporation that I do. I saw an internal job post that was in his department, so I asked him if he knew the hiring manager. He emailed me, and said that he did not. He did say that someone he repects knows this person well and says he is a really good guy. He then says, "I'd be happy to make a call on your behalf (for a small fee of course), ect..."

Is this guy serious?? For a small fee?? What the heck does that mean? This guy seems like a down-to-earth guy, friendly, nice, ect. I wouldn't think him to try to get me to pay him, but I don't know him all that well. Your thoughts?

He could be joking. But maybe he's in a position to guarantee you the job. For that, I don't think a fee or some sort of gift would be entirely out of the question.

Good point. It's strange though, the rest of his email isn't joking at all. It's very out of place if it is a joke.

$5 says it's a joke, don't be so freaking anal.

I would probably make the same joke.

I think it was a joke as well. I've been known to use that line in the past (very rarely, usually with people who know I'm kidding). And I've also had people joke about that with me.
