What else would you pay a 2000% markup for?

I'm not sure of the math, but soda & condiments at McDonald's must help their bottom line IMO 🙂

You can get a coffie for $2 at Starbucks? Where where? That is 75% off from around here.

how does coffee at home cost $0.10? I don't recall electricity/gas to heat the water, filter paper, the coffee ground, and the sugar all adding up to 10 cents.

I ain't going to buy the supplies and brewing myself coffee to just analyze how much it actually costs per cup vs. Starbucks. Besides, they don't use generic coffee beans :disgust:

When it comes to Starbucks - or, any other coffee shop for that matter, it's more than just the cup of coffee. You are provided with a comfortable place that you can sit down and enjoy your coffee while talking with friends or other folks. You could buy one $2.00 cup of coffee (actually, $1.68 or so for a Grande) and literally sit in one of their comfy chairs with your laptop all day.

yep water, 6 cents a gallon from the tap or $1.69 for a litre. (don't remember the conversion but it's bound to be close to $4 a gallon.)

and I use a britta water filter go through about $20 a year on filters.

can't say I've ever tried Starbucks coffee, but I love Dunkin Donuts coffee, something like $1.69 for a large after taxes.

yeah, the enviroment is a big thing, not making it on your own too

Sure, you can call a few friends home, but it's fun to get out of the house and go places even if it means a buck or two more

Soda? Yeah, they made decent profit. Condiments? Nope.

6 cents a gallon from the tap?!?!?! Holy sht!t! :Q

Our water is .025 cents/gallon.

I buy a cup of joe and a donut every morning at the gas station when I start my trek north to work (abiout an hour)

It cost me about $2.

I could make the coffe at home and eat a bagel or something BUT I would need to wake up much earlier so the few bucks is worth it!

I'd hate to take showers at his house. $2 or $3 per shower? Man.

That's proably factoring in the cost of his Brita filters. We were talking about coffee before, not showers 😛.

When you think about it, to compare home brewed coffee to Starbucks you have to use the Starbucks brand of coffee at home. It's $7 a bag at the walmart here, and I doubt a bag of that stuff makes 70 cups of coffee.

Don't forget you're paying for the excess packaging, Wal-Mart's markup and the wonderful shopping atmosphere they provide.

starbucks is a very good example of successful marketing

they are selling coffe for gods sake, before starbucks, coffee was like 50 cent tops at breakfast places
