I swear there's a security and maintenance thread somewhere around here, i feel like I've read it, but I can't find it. There's one about spyware and antivirus stuff, but it's what to do if your computer is already fvcked, not prevention. If anyone can link me to it, I'd appreciate it. Anyway, here's what I am planning to do, I think i got all this from this mysterious thread. I'm planning to avoid the internet as much as possible and use my other computer, and this comp is just for gaming, nothing real sensitive on it.
For security get Kaspersky AV (maybe something free in 30 days), ad-aware, spybot, and use firefox; turn off system restore. Run the first 3 once a week unless something is messed up, then go read that thread i mentioned above. I think I may need a firewall prog, ill read the threads existing on that. Also, I am wondering how I should adjust the firefox settings.
For maintenance, defrag and backup hd once a week. I can't think of anything else actually. Keep drivers updated and all that.
Can anyone let me know if this plan'll work pretty good or link me to that thread I think exists? Thanks.
