downloaded a few "videos", but some just will not play. What else do I need? I want to watch these videos.

Well, some avi's may be playing because you have the correct codec...mov's may not be playing because you don't have Quicktime install. Give more info, then we can help you more.
There are 4 different divx codecs out there... I don't know why but some people are encoding in the 3 that aren't very popular... Try finding the other 3...
If all else fails then try playing them in real player, it plays almost all divx files...
