Think its time to get back into the eBay sniping game. Rather have something web-based rather than on my computer. Anybody here subscribe to one?

Excuse my ignorance, but for the last time, is this legal?

Someone clarify.

That's what I use. I set a max bid of the maximum amount I want to pay, and if bids go over that price, I don't win the auction. It's magic! :)

Because it's stupid, it will just artificially increase the price for the buyers.

Think about it.

$50 item

Buyer 1 - sets max bid at $70
Buyer 2 - sets max bid at $90

If neither bidders had set a maximum, they might have been able to snag it for $51 using an auction sniper.

But it prevents them from bidding against each other faithfully, which is what bidding is all about: beating the other guy.

I actually manually snipe... I wait till the last 30 seconds and put my bid in... which usually gives me 2 chances. I've won about 7 of 7 so far like that...

and what Rossman said about raising the prices is true... I don't want to jack it up just so they can do the same again... I wait so they have their highest bid in there already and I have 2 chances to beat it at the end.

Yup, it defeats the "bidding" purpose, but at the end of the day, if I get it cheaper than I would've otherwise, my mission is complete.

I sniped my last auction, but to be fair it wasn't a want, it was a need. I needed to have it for a client who had already paid me, and I couldn't find another one without having to lose profit.

I actually waited until the last 5 seconds, it was so close! Intense. :Q

I use my fingers.

Yes, sniping is perfectly "legal".

Because, contrary to popular belief, many people that shop on eBay are smart.

It is counterproductive to bid on something when there are still multiple days, sometimes even hours left. All it does is rack up the price.

90% of the bidding happens in the last few minutes for a reason.

Two open browsers, one ready to place the bid with a single click, the second I keep refreshing until down to < 10 seconds.
