sony dvp-s360. mine hasn't broke yet but i know a few people whose have. when i got it, it was one of the best values you could get... nowadays everyone hates them. mostly because they break but also because panasonics are better/cheaper now.

Apex AD-1500. Hacked and de-macked, running through my VCR and into grandma's old console TV.

Samsung DVD-S221. Highly underrated, it provides excellent video quality and sound at a good price while having the ability to be able to play a piece of toast if I could get it to fit in the tray. ;) :D

I've been toying with doing the same with my A310. Minority Report gave it problems, but overall I can't complain as problems with it were few. It can't play svcd though, and it's not silver like my tv and tivo box.

Apex 1200. Plays everything and has been rock solid for about 9 months. I had an Apex 1500 before that, and it broke, but they're cheap.

That depends on which DVD-ROM drive you have in your Xbox. 1st generation xboxes came with either a Thompson or a Philips drive. The Philips drives can sometimes read CD-R, but do not read DVD writable media as well. The Thompson drive cannot read CD-R at all, but can read all DVD writeable formats. (I have the Thompson drive, and like I said, I've tried all 4 formats (burned with a Sony DRX-500UL).. All 4 formats work fine). 2nd gen Xboxes come with a Thompson, Philips, or Samsung drive, the Samsung can supposedly read everything fine and at higher speeds. The Thompson seems to be the most popular Xbox dvd drive out there.

BTW- if you want to know what drive you have here's a picture of the Thompson versus the Philips dvd-rom drive trays:
Link .. You can tell the difference by the by the "hole" cut in the middle of the tray.
Here's another picture, with the Samsung on the left, Thompson on the right: Link ... The samsung is obvious because of the two small holes on both sides of the tray.
