What DVD burner should I buy?

1) I`m gonna buy dvd-rw and different guys are telling me different stuff, ones reccomends Pioneer, others NEC, and third say Plextor is worth extra cash, and with all the new versions, and firmwares, I`m a little lost. Most importany thing for me is stabile writing (ultra speed isnt primary) and good and fast reading from low-quality (scratched) media (i live in Bosnia 🙁)

2) I`m gonna buy a extra DVD reader, and i thought to go with ASUS reader, cos lots of my friends had troubles with LG & Samsung, and those are mostly the brands that you can buy over here.

thanx 🙂

i have the BenQ 1640. I personally don't think it's all that great. It takes longer time to burn at 16X with this burner than it does for me to burn at 12X with my Optorite. Why? It takes forever to burn the lead in and out files!

The best I have found is the Plextor PX716UF. External firewire is the best solution I have found. Been burning now for 9 years - always external. Less impact on the CPU. Also, you have portability between computers.
