What drive clone program do you use?

What do you use to clone a drive? Like when you get an SSD drive and need to copy your platter drive onto it? Is "platter drive" the correct name of the old style 5400/7200RPM hard drives?

I used to use Acronis to make backup images. So, I have Acronis DOS boot on a USB drive. It also had a drive clone feature. It seems to work fine.

What would be the best subforum to post this question?
 
Wonder why you posted in this particular room instead of the storage room, but a lot, including me, would recommend Macrium's Reflect, which is free. I do monthly frogging of SSDs by using the Samsung Secure Erase and the re-cloning with Reflect.
 
I use acronis and it works fine. It is also free if you have a Western Digital hard drive in your machine. You can download it direct from Western Digital's website.
 
Been using Acronis True Image via bootable media for over 10 years. Current
version is perfect for SSD from HDD, or vice versa.

Not sure what you mean by your "platter drive" question. My routine shows the drive letter and name as well as the brand and size..
 
Just used Acronis to clone a HD to a SSD. It worked fine. Another popular cloning program does not produce a bootable disk.
 
Does Macrium's Reflect have any issues with Windows 8? I know that a year ago Acronis had a lot of issues with successfully cloning Windows 8.

ALSO, does Reflect support Cloning Onto Dissimilar Hardware?

I had an old Sony on Windows 7 and I did NOT feel like re-installing all of my programs onto my new Asus ultrabook. I used Acronis to clone my old Sony system onto my Asus computer and it has been working like a charm for 2 years. With an SSD there's no noticeable difference in speed. Device Manager still shows it as a Sony laptop, haha.
 
looks like I've been missing out. I've used clonezilla and it works well though cloning from larger drive to smaller drive can be a bit of a hassle.
