Well, right now I just have my employer's 401(k)...I'm dumping 5% of my salary into that and getting a 3% match from my employer. I'll be opening two Roth's at the beginning of next year (1 for me and 1 for the wife). That's it.

We don't currently have enough disposable income to both talking to a financial planner.

Edit: I'm 32 and she's 29. Both of us didn't get out of school until late and are at the early stages of our careers.

I honestly think I'll be working until the day I die, regardless of my well-laid retirement plans...

I'm going to buy a pallet of PS3s in two years, because it'll be worth MILLIONS when I get my time machine working.

I contribute to my employer's 401k plan and I have a couple decent sized IRAs from past jobs.

Edit-My wife and I are looking into buying some investment property in the next few years. Her Mom has a bunch of them and we would like to get into that as well.

i was putting a ton of money into my 401k then i stopped. i shifted my strategy into rental properties. i am planning on buying second rental property end of Q1 next year or maybe sell the previous properties and consildate into a multi unit like 8-10 units to rent out. i save cash out of my salary every month (roughly 50%) and keep it liquid.

I am 37

Just changed jobs and initially established 401k @ 10% - may up that in 2007.
Wife has a SEP-IRA we dump a big wad into at tax time every year.

Our retirement accounts are on track to provide us with a comfortable income when we hit 65. We hope to have non-retirement savings that allow us to do whatever the hell we want way before then. Our real nut will come if and when my wife sells her company.

edit: I have been contributing to various retirement accounts since I was 22. I took a major withdrawal to make a down payment on a house. Say what you want made a 50% return on the purchase when I sold 18 months later.

38 with 3 kids and stay at home mom + a 15 yrs mortgage (10 more to go) and 2 old cars paid off
Put max allowable into 401k past 2 years...still playing catch up. It's taken a hit since my wife quit work to be stay at home mom 4 yrs ago but it's been worth all the sacrifice (drive old cars, no vacations, no eat out or entertainment).
It's good to see the younger 20 something crowd here being more savvy with investing, wish I wasn't so careless with money then but oh well.

[*]$4k into 401k (+$2k match)

I plan to throw more into my 401k, but am going to pay off other debts prior to doing so. We also plan to open an IRA for her and max it out by the end of next year. Currently, we are putting away $17k/year, but I want to get that up to about $25k/year by the end of 2007.

I'm 25, she's 24.

Good for you. I've gone on and on about the importance of starting early. Sure wish I would have. If you keep that up you'll retire super rich.

Also start thinking about building wealth outside of retirement.
