that would normally be accomplished by other devices? Computer:Sony Vaio laptop
1. My computer is my only telephone. I use Skype through my DSL connection(no 911 capability).
This also works when i am out of town by using my wireless card.
2. My computer is my only musical source in my apt. Using Klipsch 5.1 speakers i either stream internet radio or playsome mp3s or an occasional cd.
3.My computer(via Klipsch speakers) was used for my guitar amp when i had an acoustic/electric combo and plugged the guitar cable in to my audio in with a 1/4-1/8 RCA adapter.
4.My computer is my DVD player for watching movies on my 27 inch tv via s/video cable.
5. My computer is my alarm clock. At 7:00 am it wakes from hibernation and plays(via Realplayer) Del Amitri's "Let's kiss this thing Goodbye", my current choice.
6. My computer is also a food timer via another scheduled task.
Well that's it. How bout yours?

Do yourself a favor and get a crappy cell phone off of eBay for $10. Keep it charged at all times. Even if they are not active, they can still dial out to 911.

I don't recall ever using 911 in my 54 years.

I don't recall ever using 911 in my 54 years. Are you saying the phone can dial 911 even if it is not activated?

You are correct sir.

Yes. Either a cell phone or a landline withoug dialtone will still reach 911.

Yeah - my computer 'comforts' me when my wife 'has a headache'

It entertains me with its vast array of games

Communicate with the people of ATOT

One of the best things though is the computer (and internet) has allowed me to greatly expand the array of music I listen to! Thank you last.fm and shoutcast

1 TB?

My computer allows me to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the unique perspectives different society's place on sex, and has saved me mucho denario from not having to take a road trip down to Tijuana, stand underneath an escalator in an upscale Tokyo department store, or trek over to the latest former European communist bloc country that has discovered the wonders of the CWNM (or at least CW for the first 5 minutes) "party".

The main thing is that it helps me view the 1s and 0s on my memory cards so that I may process my digital photographs. :)

1. Home theater setup (music, movies, etc).
2. Communication. I rarely use the phone; it's mostly IM.
3. Education. I've learned a hell of a lot just by reading forum posts, news articles and basically whatever's on the Internet.
4. ...Pretty much everything I've left out.

Meh... Mine makes me only $50-$150/mo. Does the Grand Nagus have any rules of acquisition that he cares to teach me?

Compared to others in this thread, I guess my computer is a useless piece of shit.

It just stays there. It doesn't even cook or clean.
