I snagged one of the executive desks (natural wood) that my company was getting rid of during an office upgrade. Real nice piece of furniture. There were two, and I took the smaller. The other was the CEO's. Borrowed a friend's truck and hauled it home from downtown San Francisco. Has around 8 nice gliding drawers, a couple of pull-out finished boards and lots of space for my monitors, an AV receiver, keyboard, room to spare. Got a great Case chair for it from a used furniture outfit. Ergonomics really matter.

I like that desk. Its clean and simple. How much did it run at Ikea? Got a link to it on their site?

Responded to your PM.

If anybody else cares. Its the Ikea Galant series. You can get pretty much an configuration you want (big, small, L-shape or not). This particular configuration was $300ish.

My current desk has a hutch on it, but I am either going to lose the hutch or swap out desks. A hutch doesn't lend itself well to a multi-monitor setup, or at least the one I have doesn't.

I have a nice, big L. About 32 sq ft total. "Built" it myself. One side is (I think) 30"x8', and the other side is about 3'x4'. I love it - I have two separate workspaces, both quite large, and all I have to do is turn my chair and roll slightly to move between them. I work from home, so one side is "work" and the other side is personal.

I have no idea where the original high res version is. This even has a bit of pixelation on it.

thanks

i googled the name and got some bigger rez versions but they all have pixelation

I have a hutch but it was $6 with my l-shaped desk (caught an o-sullivan going out of business sale a couple of years ago). I wouldn't have paid more and I wouldn't have one on a normal desk.

+1 for the IKEA Galant. I have that exact same desk without the side tabletop. The whole series is very customizeable - you can buy the basic L-frame now, and buy additional tabletops to add on later.

I have the same exact desk with side addition except, I guess the left-handed version.

Do you find it comfortable to type with your keyboard in the rounded section?

I really like all the space but I cannot find a comfortable monitor position unless I put my monitor/keyboard along one of the straight edges. Maybe its my chair, I don't know.

No hutch

Even when this desk was against a wall in my other house, I did not have a hutch. It feels too confining.

Of course, when I was in the dorms or in an apartment, I had a hutch because of space constraints and no one anticipated 20"+ LCD monitors.

Hutch is fine until you realize that you got a ginormous monitor.... I was fine with my 19" until I upgraded to a 27". I forgot how I dealt with that... I think I was able to strip the hutch down of its shelves and just have the bare skeleton.

No hutch. I bought one with a hutch and used it that way for a couple years. I removed the hutch and was amazed at the increase in openness. It looks better and feels better (like an uncluttered space compared to a cluttered one).

I actually prefer to work in the corner. My arms end up resting perfectly on the edge of the curve.
