What does "Unconfirmed Internet" on AIM mean?

You know when you hold the cursor over a user's name on AIM, it'll say "Service: Unconfirmed Internet" sometimes, or it might say, "Internet", what does that mean?

Probably meeans the real Internet while the Confirmed Internet is the internal AOL network. 😛

not a clue realy

No, I'm wondering about this too. If someone is on AOL, it says AOL or soemthing like that. I think it has to do with a firewall or something, but I'm probably wrong.

It means they are in your house! RUN!!!!! Seriously, it might be the firewall thing that is a good point. I am behind one, when I open AIM at home it says unconfirmed. Use the same AIM at friends, and it says just 'internet'

When you first register your screen name for AIM, you are asked to confirm your email address. Users who do this are listed as "Internet", while users who fail to do this are listed as "Unconfirmed Internet". Anyway, that's my theory.

According to the following link, it means the other person's provider is not AOL.

<< Buddy Capability Info-if you place your mouse over a buddies screen name that is online, you are able to view their provider (AOL, or Unconfirmed Internet), how long they have been online, their warning level, and their AIM capabilities. >>

if you have aol as your isp: it shows AOL
my friend has @rogers and his shows internet
i have RR cable and mines shows unconfirmed internet. 😕

DamageInc has it right.. if you confirm your email address, you're "confirmed internet". If not, you're "unconfirmed"

I replied to that and it still list me as unconfirmed 🙁

Can't be. The first two people online in my list right now are both listed with "Internet" while one of them is an ATTBI customer, and the other is a Verizon DSL customer -both smart enough not to go through AOL at all.
