It is to set the input voltage. Always a very good idea to have it set correctly :) which yours is.

So what happens if i switch it to whatever the other option is, and if it isn't good to put it in the other option...why is it there in the first place?

lol at DaveSimmons...

If you go someplace in South America, or Europe, you may need to switch it to 220/230.

Basicly when you go to contrys that have 220/230V (america has 115V) Swich it to the 220 mode so your computer Wont Blow up!

You dont really gotta worry about it here in the states. If you put it on 220, all thats gonna happen is ur PC prolly wont turn on. But if you do decide to take it to Europe, dont forget to change it or you wont be able to get online to find this thread again to remember what the little switch was for. LOL!

Lol, I played with that switch a little with my old HP celeron computer. It doesn't do anything except stop it from turning on. But i wouldn't try it just incase something does happen.

if i take my PC to europe i'd switch it to 250V, use another power chord and can use the same h/w over there. Here (and Japan) power is 110Volts.

The main danger would probably be if you were in Europe and set the switch to 110V. Then the power supply is expecting 110V, but it's blasted with 220V. Roatsy toasty.
Either way, it's still a good idea to leave it where it's supposed to be.
