What does the Quake symbol on guitars mean?

I've seen a symbol on several guitars that looks very similar to the Quake symbol (Q with a vertical leg).

I saw it tonight on the Grammy awards on Paul McCartney's guitar, and I have seen it on various guitars around town. Is it just a manufacturer's symbol or does it symbolize something different?

seriously tho, i can't think of a guitar mfg who has a logo similar to a quake Q.

OK, my roommate said it's the symbol for Epiphone. It's actually an E, but on his and Paul's guitar, the guitar was being held that makes the symbol appear to be a Q. :D

I guess? I really don't know much about guitars, but the guitar he had in his video had that exact symbol on it, except it was rotated 90 degrees.

Actually Epiphone has been making great arch top guitars for a long time. The "Sheraton" is the best example and is an excellent guitar with an excellent history starting long before their association with Gibson. A lot of good players used 'em in the 60's and they've made a come back.

HA! I asked the same question a few weeks ago. Asked my friend why he had the Quake symbol on his guitar.

Back when the Beatles recorded together, Epiphone was a top guitar manufacturer. John Lennon played an Epiphone Casino (looked like this, later he sanded down the finish to look like this). Gibson bought Epiphone later and made them their b!tch. Nowadays Epiphone is Gibson's entry-level line, although they still have some exclusive models like the Casino/Sheraton/Riviera. Anyways as others mentioned that 'E' logo is Epiphone's trademark

Epiphone != crap.

And Epiphone > Squier.

Epi was a top manufacturer, then they started sucking with their Gibson knock-offs, but they kept a lot of high quality acoustics and arch tops etc. Now they're making better and better Gibson guitars, to the point where the differences are basically the pickups and the name on the headstock.
