if i started waving around a nazi flag people would think im an anti-semite, but all I really am is for a united germany and thats all im celebrating. The flag represents a time where germany was united.

To get back to the original question - to the people that live around me it is a symbol of their pride of where they live .

To me, it's a symbol of where I'm from (Virginia).

This makes some sense, but to jump to an assumption before an explanation would be narrow minded.

I don't fly an American flag, but if I did, it would be to express my support of democracy and equality - not the killing and relocation of Native Americans, or the slave trade, or the financing of right-wing death squads in El Salvador.


To the ignorant, it always seems "stupid" when someone takes a perspective different than their own. It's always "obvious"...

edit: dude has a point. i don't see how people can say that a symbol of oppression was actually a symbol of freedom. the people flying the flag were CLEARLY trying to DENY OTHER PEOPLE THEIRS...
