What does "successful" mean to you?

Lola

When you think of being successful, what does that entail?
Lots of money? Happiness? Loving what you do? Fame?

Also, to be successful, do you feel you need a degree?

If you think YOU are successful, tell me why you feel you are and how you got to where you are!

In my opinion, it varies. It all depends on what the individual's goals are. So if could be lots of money, or it could be fame.

Success is having children, seeing them reach their potential in some God given way or another, and telling them that's not good enough.

I don't live paycheck to paycheck and I have financial security. That's successful enough for me right now.

I'll know I've reached success when I have a good wife, kids, and am comfortable enough financially to travel with the wife and send the kids to good schools...and happy.

I doubt I'll ever love what I do...nor be famous

You (as in the general case) do not need a degree to be successful. However, I will not be successful without a degree.

As you can see, i am really trying to assess some things in my life.
I am trying to figure out what makes successful people...well, successful.

All those that make good money, enjoying the ride, etc....

I am trying to think of something to do with my life.

Maybe get a business/ entreprenurial certificate? What sort of business would you be interested in getting into? First you need to secure a venture capitalist or a loan to start your business, you need a solid business plan so your business won't go belly up after a few months... etc.

Everyone in our office making $100K+ a year / that are in the senior positions have masters or more than one degree if that helps at all.

"Successful" is an individual, personal state of mind that cannot be measured against outside standards. It is a state of happiness and contentment caused by the ongoing fulfillment of personal goals (whatever those goals may be). For some, this is money. For others, it is family. In truth, it could be anything, so long as it is the unfolding of your personal life experience in the manner which you desire.

The only standard of achievement worth reaching for and measuring is that of true fulfillment. And that imo can only be achieved through the giving of and receiving of love.

Same here. I've been poor, I've been rich. I buried one of my children. I've survived cancer and other assorted nastiness. My business partner was murdered many years ago. I survived a messy divorce. And, I'm a grandparent.

The hour or so after I wake up in the morning is my "joy" hour, when I think of all the wonderful things that exist and how great it is to be around to experience some of them.

When I sit out on my deck and try to think about how to "take it to the next level" and can't fathom what the "next level" might be, then I think I'll be there.
