What does "Putting the Damage On?" mean?

I've heard people use this phrase before, and the other night I heard it used in a great song...

I have no idea what it means. Can anyone enlighten me? Or is more of a context required?

Actually, this is the song I was talking about in my first post. Love the song, but can't understand most of what she's saying. What a coincidence.

My guess is that it means getting high enough so you are hurting big time the next day.

I'm sorry john. I had the lyrics in my hand and I was going to bring them back to work to post, but forgot it at home. But reading through the lyrics and listening to it a few times. I think "Damage" is her ex. Putting it on, is (IMO) her kinda putting this facade (pronounced fa SOD) for him and her being sick of it. I'm probably completely missing it here. I'm gonna read it again tonight and post my 2nd impression.
