Wrong, not to mention the fact that I purchased four Geforce 6200's and two Radeon 9800SE cards from the refurb section over time, and all four 6200's unlocked without artifacts and overclocked at least 33% on the core. One Radeon 9800SE unlocked and overclocked beyond pro speeds, while the second one didn't unlock, but did overclock beyond pro speeds.

Is that when you tried to software SLI two 6200's? If so, how did that work out? :)

Perhaps it could benefit from a redesign that addresses the most common issues more clearly, and doesn't seem so packed full of legal jargon/releases/etc.
That's a good point, and you might like to email it to NewEgg. After I submitted my original RMA request I contacted them and pointed out that the info on open box that you see as you're checking out can be misleading and is incomplete. The CS lady agreed and promised to bump the idea up the line. Unlike with most companies, I got the distinct impression that my suggestion would get serious consideration.

I am pretty blown away that Newegg would seek me out on this forum to make matters right. In contrast, I had an issue with a Creative MP3 player. People have been posting about the same issue for two years on the Creative forum, and they can't be bothered to answer it on their own forum.

Lots of returns are just from people who don't know any better and order a PCIe card when they have an AGP slot and stuff like that.

I would not recommend open box purchases from Newegg if your item has any level of complication. For example, I was going to buy an open box mainboard, only to find out that the module that the board requires to run sound will not come with it if purchased in open box form.

Unfortunately, I couldn't count on that with the 9800pro I grabbed. And, honestly, even if Newegg or the manufacturer *does* test these cards, the problem this card had wouldn't have been easy to spot unless they did more than just install it.

IMO, for something to be called refurbished and put out for sale, it needs to have gone through some thorough testing like looping 3Dmark for several hours at stock speeds or something.

It is a very welcome sight to see an online merchant having customer support perusing the boards and being proactive. You can always find a product cheaper if you dig hard enough, but, in the end, good customer service is what keeps you coming back.

QFT.

It's why I often make my purchases form Newegg even if it's a few dollars cheaper elsewhere due to superior customer service. I don't want to be on hold and bounced around to 3 different departments. I just want a person to solve my issue within a reasonable amount of time.

Every single "refurb" item I've purchased from newegg has gone bad.
